💯% this. Every day, people in large authoritarian countries tweet at the Baltics: “We have suburbs that have more people than your entire country!” Always feel a bit of pity for people who say that. They’ve convinced themselves that ‘more people = greater country’ as a universal norm. But they’re also inadvertently admitting how powerless and ignored people in their own country are within that great blob of population. What they’re really saying is: “Why can’t you be as irrelevant as a suburb in our country?” Well, because we like having our own nation state where we can determine our own destiny and not have our lives decided by some far away, out of touch capital. One consequence of building nation states at this scale is that, yes, the average person in the Baltics is much closer to decision-making and has a bigger voice globally, certainly compared to the average person in a large authoritarian country. This is also why a lot of propaganda keeps referring to us as yapping dogs, seemingly unaware that.. er, we actually quite like dogs. And of course they obsessively type repeatedly about how they don’t care about us. We could say: “Ha, our entire country has less people than one of your suburbs!” But we don’t because we don’t expect everyone to share our norms. And we are our content with our lives here to not need to put others down. Nothing wrong with being proud of your big country if that’s what you all want. But if that’s true then keep your country within its borders. 🙂

Definitely a wonderful human and a fantastic actor. I also remember him as Bester in Babylon 5, such a fabulous role. Rest in piece, Mr. Koenig.
R.I.P Mr. Walter Koenig. ❤️ I have had the privilege of getting to know Walter over the years. I will always remember his humor, humility, and legendary contribution to STAR TREK as Chekov!

Walter Koenig 1936~2026 We mourn the earthly loss of a dear senior member of our Star Trek family. Like my favorite uncle who always had me doubled over laughing . I can almost hear the angels laughing, too, as he tries out his new material on Heaven’s stage. #RIP #WalterKoenig

Mourning the passing of Star Trek legend Walter Koenig. He was 90. A couple of years ago, Walter gave us a nice interview for the Roddenberry Archive, directed and edited by Roger Lay, Jr. youtu.be/Z3vzNfxpgZ8

I am deeply saddened to learn of Walter Koenig’s passing. Although we did not know each other well away from the set, we shared the later seasons of the original Star Trek series and the six films that followed. What I observed, and what so many fans have expressed over the years, was a man who genuinely loved the Star Trek community. At conventions, Walter was rarely content to remain behind a signing table. He preferred to be among the people who had kept Star Trek alive for so many decades. That kind of genuine connection is rare, and it will be remembered by everyone who came into contact with him. My condolences to his family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

I spoke with the newly elected President of Estonia. I congratulated Ülle Madise @YlleMadise on taking office. Ukraine always wishes the people of Estonia nothing but success and the achievement of all their goals. I am grateful for the much-needed and right signals – Estonia’s support in all areas will continue. Estonia is also closely following the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace. I shared details of the talks in Oslo and our communication with the American side following their meeting in Russia. There is an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting at the team level as early as November, and it is important that the meeting is not postponed. Ukraine is ready for negotiations at any time, and our position is that the sooner the talks begin, the better. Of course, like Estonia and other partners, we have always advocated for Europe’s presence in the negotiations. Europe must have a say in all formats that can deliver real decisions. We also discussed the consequences of Russian strikes, particularly on our energy infrastructure and railways. Russia is deliberately trying to destroy our locomotives, and therefore any support that helps increase our rolling stock of this type would be very helpful. Thank you, Estonia!

So sad to hear about the loss of Walter Koenig. Such a nice guy and when we were on the convention circuit together a pleasure to hang out with. Here he is with Celeste Yarnall in “The Apple”, one of my favorites of the oddball episodes. Farewell.

I’m very sad to hear of the passing of Walter Koenig, aka Pavel Chekov from Star Trek. I got to meet him on a few occasions, and he was always genuine, thoughtful, and a little anxious in a way that made him very relatable. R.I.P.

Ukraine is not Russia. That's Putin’s problem – refusing to recognize a separate nation, refusing to recognize a separate country – that's what did him in. He was shown a military operation that was supposed to take three days. We found parade uniforms in their various military vehicles. They were literally marching to a parade. He still doesn't understand and doesn't want to admit that this is a different nation, a different people. They were advancing on Kyiv from all directions. Their main goal was to seize the capital of Ukraine. They reached Kyiv. They trapped us, and then we started hammering them, and they didn't know what to do about it. They were especially shocked when they drove toward the capital and people were just throwing burning mixtures. People were setting their armor on fire. It wasn't a matter of some general being an idiot. I believe the one who gave the order just didn't fully realize what was happening. Because what does taking Kyiv mean? When you've taken those towns on the way to Kyiv, you have to leave troops behind to hold those towns. And that takes a huge number of people. It's a pretty large territory. If the people inside offer resistance, then you need an army to hold every town. That was their mistake. They didn't even realize there would be resistance. That was their main mistake. That's it.
