Jokes aside, we have to remember that pre ai software is imperfect and we are likely at the inflection point where ai builds better software than we can.
In the process of building these digital twins/machine posts, our agents found and fixed half a dozen issues with the manufacturers CAM software, a couple of those being safety issues on our press brakes.
I would not be shocked if our βvibe coded slopβ machine posts are actually more backtested than some of the software that is for sale out there currently.
If you think building a "software factory" is stolen valor...
Well here is everything our software factory built for our real factory in the last two weeks
- Digital twins of all our manufacturing process
- Our own CAM software for our lasers and press brakes
- Our own nesting engine
- Our own geometry kernel for reading customer parts faster (replacing opencascade)
- In-browser, customer-facing DFM tools (like a bending simulation)
- Custom firmware and hardware on the shop floor automation
- 3D Shipping and packing simulations
- An MCP server so AI agents can quote and order parts
- More performant marketing and documentation pages
- No more saas, every tool we pay for is now gone and we control the code.
This is the smallest our software team has been (1 person, me) and things are only speeding up. We are just getting started!
If you are designing parts with Claude, hand it the fabworks mcp.
Your agent receives detailed dfm feedback on how to modify your parts to keep them manufacturable, not just a pass/fail.
Watch how it works:
Just ask your agent to "review this part with the fabworks.com mcp"
Here is an example of the type of graphic we hand back to your agents:
Thanks to ai the cost of using AWS directly is significantly lower. There is little to no reason to use abstractions anymore.
Manufacturing will follow. Middle men and marketplaces will see a huge and sudden decrease in value prop.

Now live on fabworks.com
See where your bent parts are going to deform, and how much, before you order.
Yellow: the part bends, but expect some distortion near the cutout. Tolerances there are affected, the rest of the part holds. Often that's fine, and now you know where.
No color: it bends as drawn.
Upload a STEP at fabworks.com to check your file!
Open welding on any bent part in your quote. Hover a seam and it lights up. One click welds the whole seam.
Or weld it yourself. Hold and drag the torch along any seam. Tick Ground and we grind the weld. The part price updates as you weld.
Welding is live at fabworks.com
Upload a STEP, click a seam, and get instant pricing and DFM feedback. Cut, bent and welded in Ventura, CA.

Check out this tube lasered welding kit Jonathan brought over for the Sunday welding class
Thanks @JulianFried for hosting us, had a great time seeing the robots

Jonathan does an amazing job I would highly recommend him for SUPER fast sheet metal needs
Replying to @fabworks_guy @jamesbambridge_
The opposite is also true with very small parts, like this gripper bracket for @FlexAppeall
At this scale even our narrow punch tooling seems large and reverse flanges need to be carefully considered.
I worked closely with our DFM engineers on the solver, and we back tested it on years of production data. We allow for some really crazy looking setups.
3D interactive bending DFM is now live (in beta) on fabworks.com
Upload a step file and see a 3d simulation of how your part will be bent, helping you work around DFM issues before you order.

This is especially useful on thicker parts like this bracket for @jamesbambridge_
Tooling for >=.187 is much thicker and greatly limits our options.
