Today we are going to show you the second demonstration executed for #DB23: FlyingBasket performing the first trials of delivery from shore-to-ship logistics On the afternoon of the 18th of October 2023, our crew performed #BVLOS automatic flights with the #FB3 heavy-lift drone to deliver from the Naval Base of Taranto (#MarinaMilitare) to a boat around 2km offshore (total flight distance 4km). The #FB3 delivered the payload without the need for landing on the deck, and once the detachment was completed, it returned to the helipad from which it started the mission, showing how effectively and swiftly ships can be resupplied without docking. This test showed how heavy-lift drones can be integrated into the supply chain logistics for the maritime industry. Together with existing solutions, drones mark a new dimension in which logistics can be efficiently managed with benefits related to lead time, costs, safety and flexibility. FlyingBasket performs first trials of delivery from shore-to-island logistics On the 18th of October 2023, in the port area of Taranto (Italy), with support from the Marina Militare (Italian Navy), Marina Sud, Porto di Taranto, Guardia Costiera (Cost Guard) and DTA, BVLOS automatic flights were performed with the FB3 heavy-lift drone to deliver from Punta Rondinella (Taranto) to the Island of San Pietro a payload of 25kg over a total distance of 6.4km. The FB3 drone with a sling configuration delivered the payload on the island without landing and with a flight speed of 16m/s, it completed the whole operation from take-off to landing in about 5 minutes. These trials showed the possibility of resupplying communities, businesses or other institutional bodies through drones opening possibilities with regard to current challenges that these stakeholders face (availability, time to supply, safety), all to improve their activities and the quality of services in remote places.
