Last year, the team behind #FestivaldaCanção wanted to increase the number of open submissions, but also the number of places in the "Prova de Acesso". This year, no "Prova de Acesso" and a full line-up of open-submission songs.

So it's clear as day that none of the big names wanted to participate (although the rules say that the winner is entitled to go to Eurovision), just because the society would use the argument of 'If you don't want to go, why are you participating?'.

Oh, and I forgot that since there aren't semifinals, the fandoms only have the night of the 6th to spam-vote, instead of almost a week.

You might ask: 'Why not have a fully open submission process for FdC?' Well, that is a possibility, but since 2017, RTP has prioritised high-quality songs from well-known artists, so that would represent a 180-degree shift in perspective that we already tried before (2010-2011).
