Amazing JMP by Johanna Roth (Sciences Po). She is the first to combine nationwide shelter data with employment records to show that job loss causes homelessness, which in turn reduces the probability of finding a job, creating a feedback loop. github.com/JojoRoth/JMP-Draf…

E chi invece studia veramente i sistemi d'istruzione e conosce i numeri viene sommerso da tutte ste voci scomposte e spesso senza appigli numerici.

On the one hand, American officials encourage Europeans to build up their own military forces; at the same time, they promote parties and leaders who oppose defense spending, favor Russia, or want to break European solidarity theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1…

Our work has long been thoroughly scrutinized by the global community of researchers. Our code and data are public. Comments, extensions, and refinements have been discussed in numerous conferences and journals for many years. This is how science operates.

Agree that French riots are probably good news for Marine Le Pen and RN. But possible there might be a serious backlash vs LFI and Melenchon, which in turn puts a centrist into final two, and thus hurts Le Pen. Political implications of riots are complex.

Peace never comes through weakness. Today, representatives of the U.S. Congress were in Kyiv – a bipartisan delegation – and I am grateful to them for visiting Ukraine at such a difficult time. They asked: what is needed to end the war? The answer must be strong. There must be sanctions under the Lindsey Graham bill, there must be support for Ukraine in protecting lives, and there must be pressure on Russia for its war. And today, there was a conversation between the leaders of America and Russia. A conversation that leads to something different. Recently, there was a European decision to lift sanctions on Russian oligarchs. Since then, Russian strikes and the torment of people have only increased. This past week alone, there was a brutal Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, aerial bombs were dropped on Kramatorsk – on ordinary city buses – and there have been constant attacks on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure and on the life-sustaining infrastructure in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, and our other cities. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded. The Russians are compensating for their inability to achieve their objectives on the battlefield with this kind of terror. This year, Russia is weaker on the battlefield than at any other point in the war. That is why Putin is relying on terror. That is why he is relying on attempts to strike backroom deals to secure some form of pressure relief for Russia, in order to buy more time and more opportunities for war. Any easing of sanctions against Russia without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement with Russia is an obvious weakness. It plays into Russia’s hands – allowing it to kill more, wage war for longer, have even less respect for America, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world. Ukraine is ready to take symmetrical de-escalatory steps, and the American team knows our position. Our strikes on Russian oil refineries and other oil facilities are a response to Russia’s years-long campaign of terror against Ukraine’s energy sector. Ukraine will not set Russian oil refineries on fire if Russia does not destroy our energy infrastructure. This is the kind of agreement we are proposing to America, and we believe the United States has enough power to achieve such a compromise. Gifts to Putin will not bring peace or any benefit to the civilized world. Russia will “repay” the diesel with further terror and perfidy. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged. What is needed is real de-escalation with Russia on a reciprocal basis. We count on America’s fair support for our defense of life, for our defense of people in Ukraine – and on the United States having a correspondingly strong conversation with Russia. A strong one, not a weak one.

– at Rimini, Emilia Romagna

Mark Carney, "In the heart of Germany, above Weimar, there is a wooded ridge called Ettusberg. And for decades, Goethe walked, thought, and wrote there. An oak on that ridge came to bear his name, a living monument to the highest ideals of European culture" "As the 20th century turned dark, that same oak became trapped behind the barbed wire of Buchenwald. A silent witness to humanity's deepest moral failure. Goethe understood that ideals must be fought for, that values do not defend themselves." "Indeed, at the end of Faust, the old man's last vision is of a free people on free ground. Nödvg, Värdjän, Siegfreiheit. Wie das Leben, de taklik si eroban mus" "Freedom and life must be earned every single day" "Every day" "Every day, not once in 1945 or 1956 or 1989. Every day, including this one." My take: 1945, 1956 and 1989 are not distant history lessons: they mark Europe’s liberation from fascism, Hungary’s uprising against Soviet rule, and the fall of the Iron Curtain. Carney’s point is that freedom is never something Europe simply achieved and banked forever - it is a choice, a responsibility and, when necessary, a struggle renewed by every generation.

Scelte.

BREAKING: 🇳🇱 Train traffic has been severely disrupted across parts of the eastern and northern Netherlands this morning following acts of sabotage targeting railway infrastructure. Since around 05:30, malfunctions have affected railway safety systems at multiple locations. According to ProRail, pipes and other materials were deliberately attached or placed on the tracks, disrupting signalling and railway operations. A train also came into contact with material deliberately placed on the track. ProRail said it did not lead to an accident and no one was injured. Materials were found at multiple locations, including: • Utrecht–Arnhem, near Veenendaal and Overberg • Amersfoort–Deventer • Gouda–Oudewater The sabotage has also caused railway crossings to malfunction, affecting road traffic in some areas. ProRail employees are working to remove the materials and secure the affected sections. Train services are being restarted where possible, but major disruption remains around Zwolle, Deventer and Amersfoort. NS has warned stranded passengers not to expect replacement buses, saying the scale of the disruption makes it impossible to provide sufficient bus services. It remains unknown who carried out the sabotage or what the motive was. Authorities are also investigating whether the incidents are connected to Prinsjesdag, the Netherlands’ annual political event taking place today.

I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning. What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day - even on civilian railways. So far Putin has been responsible for the deaths of 1700 staff of Ukrzaliznytsia - Ukrainian Railways. They and their daily passengers are absolutely heroic. When are we going to give them the air defences they need? Why won’t we unfreeze Putin’s cash and give it to Ukraine? There is more than €140 billion in a Belgian bank account - and about £10 billion in London. Britain could show a lead. The Ukrainians are going to win - that much was clear from the last three days in their wonderful country. But we will get this dreadful war over much faster if we all get serious and give them what they need and deserve.
