When #depression hits, losing hope of things getting better can make things even more bleak. Here's a blog reflecting on this theme and how #psychotherapy can help restore your trust and faith in yourself. magnoliapsychotherapy.co.uk/…

Self-soothing is an essential life skill, and one that many people did not naturally gain through childhood experiences. Luckily it can be learned at any point in life. Here's a blog with some tips to build skills in managing your emotional and physiological state: magnoliapsychotherapy.co.uk/… #selfcare #psychotherapy #counselling

This is a really great article refining understanding of how trauma and our bodies interact. 'Trauma as a disorder of prediction' is an insightful expression of what is happening as we experience the here and now as if it were the there and then. If #trauma or #ptsd are present in your life or world have a read. psychologytoday.com/us/blog/…

I was delighted this morning to walk past this stunning tree and to notice how very beautiful change can be. It's a feature of my work as a psychotherapist to witness this truth on a daily basis, but I love it when autumn comes around and makes it so utterly visible. If you have changes you'd like to explore, psychotherapy may help. If so, get in touch for in person sessions in Darlington or online sessions for UK-based clients. You can reach me at [email protected] or on 01325 605160. #change #psychotherapy #counselling

Being able to feel and tolerate enjoyable emotions is such an important part of recovery from trauma, and its often overlooked. Here's a piece about it from Carolyn Spring which is well worth a read. Laughing in the therapy room can be as important as crying! carolynspring.com/podcast/le… #trauma #ptsd #psychotherapy

My therapy room sits at the front of my new home in Grangeside, Darlington. The house has been somewhat of a labour of love, renovated over a couple of years. I moved my psychotherapy practice here in May and since then we have had garden groundworks and improvements ongoing. I’m delighted to now be at the end of the work that needed doing. Finally this last weekend we have put some trees in the front garden and sown a lawn. Green shoots of grass are beginning to peak through, and it feels as if the land has been reclaimed. No longer a building site, nature can once again take over. In the coming weeks I look forward to seeing the grass emerge, ahead of the spring bulbs we’ve planted beneath it for the new year. It feels somewhat symbolic of the transition from the upheaval of renovating and moving to the rootedness and stability of what is now to come. I look forward to welcoming many clients to this lovely grounded space in the coming years. If you’d like to nurture the green shorts of your own groundedness through psychotherapy, then get in touch. #psychotherapy #counselling #couplescounselling

Sensory circuits can not only help when you are feeling over-stimulated or overloaded, they are also useful to help you prepare for a period of focus or activity. They are basically a big break-state, enabling you to move from however you feel now, to an alert, open and relaxed state. Taking 15-20 minutes, the sensory circuit has three phases: alerting, organising and calming. You pick what activities you want to do in each of these phases. Check out the article I wrote about how to do a sensory circuit with this link: ferobinsonpsychotherapy.co.u… #nervoussystem #relaxation #anxiety #mentalhealthtips
