After Remus Lupin is outed as a werewolf at the end of Harry’s third year, everyone expects Rita Skeeter to publish a nasty, sensationalist article about him. Instead, she writes a passionate defense of werewolf rights. And somehow, she means every word of it. Rita starts interviewing werewolves, exposing their appalling living conditions, the discrimination they face, and the laws that make it nearly impossible for them to find honest work. Her articles are so compelling that public opinion begins to shift. Eventually, the Wizengamot overturns Umbridge’s legislation barring werewolves from employment, and their living conditions and opportunities begin to improve. Rita Skeeter, of all people, practically single-handedly launches a movement for werewolf rights. The wizarding world is baffled. Dumbledore is cautiously impressed. The Ministry is panicking. Hermione is trying to work out what Rita’s angle is. And Remus Lupin has absolutely no idea what is happening. Because nobody knows that Rita went to Hogwarts at the same time as Harry’s parents, had a massive crush on Remus, and has just discovered that her old school crush is a werewolf.
