In 2010 I've announced the very first version of Cloud9 at @jsconfeu in Berlin. Yesterday @Werner announced AWS Cloud9 in the keynote of #reInvent. We've come a long way but we are still only getting started. youtube.com/watch?v=hN_7tAKh… aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/aws…

10x productivity improvement with AI tools is real. I just completed a project in two days with Claude Code, which would have taken me two weeks manually. Doesn’t work for everything but certain, well defined tasks can be done an order of magnitude faster.

This will change how we approach problems in our industry. Need to do migrate to a new runtime, library, language? This is much cheaper now. Same for prototyping. Creating working demos is just one prompt away.

AI doomers are the greatest optimists. They believe that AI will gain free will, conciseness and an IQ that far surpasses humans. Sounds pretty optimistic to me.

Meet DBRX, a new sota open llm from @databricks. It's a 132B MoE with 36B active params trained from scratch on 12T tokens. It sets a new bar on all the standard benchmarks, and - as an MoE - inference is blazingly fast. Simply put, it's the model your data has been waiting for.

Today we released an open source model, DBRX, that beats all previous open source models on the standard benchmarks. The model itself is a Mixture of Experts (MoE), that's roughly twice the brains (132B) but half the cost (36B) of Llama2-70B. Making it both smart and cheap. Since only 36B expert parameters are used live, it's close to twice the speed (tokens/seconds) of Llama2-70B. We're excited to build custom versions of this for organizations that have proprietary data! Check it out! databricks.com/blog/announci…

Once I was asked a coding question that was easy if you knew about priority queues and heaps. I didn’t and struggled a lot even though the interviewer kept giving me hints.
In a 2002 interview for my DREAM internship @ EASports I lied & said I knew matrix algebra even tho I hadn't taken any classes in it. When asked what I knew, my exact quote was: "I had to push it out of my mind so I wouldn't get confused with the content in my actual math class."

Somehow heaps had not stuck in my memory (JS not having heap data structures didn’t help). I was reading up on them after the interview and now I see applications of them everywhere. Kind of grateful for that awkward interview.

I’m a big fan of doing this during development but PLEASE don’t ship it like this to customers.
ONCE #1 is completely #NoBuild for the front-end. No bundling, no transpiling, no nothing. Just individual, vanilla CSS and JavaScripts served over HTTP/2. It's amazingly light and amazingly fast with exquisite cache expiration dynamics. Bliss to develop for too!

We didn’t let it slip away. The web absorbed it. fetch, querySelectorAll, class lists, …
"jQuery was the pinnacle of front end development…and we let it slip away."

Dammit, it's impossible to show all of Germany in a PDF
Did you know? PDF pages are not limited by the format itself. However, Adobe Acrobat imposes a limit of 15 million by 15 million inches, or 225 trillion in² (145,161 km²). This is the scale of the maximum size superimposed on Germany.

Doing #AdventOfCode like it's 2021 - without Copilot or ChatGPT. It's crazy how hard it was writing software back in the day.

While everyone is all the rage about the aggressive and futuristic Cybertruck - here is a picture of the friendly, retro ID.Buzz. Can't wait for the California version of this.

Did re:Invent turn into JSConf? Seeing @cramforce, @brianleroux, @voodootikigod and @rauchg posting from re:Invent and talking about beer.js makes me feel I’m missing out. Represent JS guys.
