Self-hosted VPNs work well for encrypting traffic on public WiFi or getting your home IP while traveling. They don't solve the use case most commercial VPNs actually market, which is hiding your identity from the sites you visit. A $5 VPS tied to your name and payment method is the opposite of anonymous. DSVPN fitting in 25KB is genuinely impressive though. That footprint means you can run it on almost anything, including embedded hardware where WireGuard or OpenVPN would be too heavy. Real niche win even if it doesn't replace commercial providers for most people.
