2023 Corn harvest for silage tips - No. 5.
Hearing of corn fields drying up in 100+F heat thru much of US. Pay attn to kernel maturity. Don't hit fields too quickly if moisture's dropping but kernels are milk/dough.
Whole-plant DM can swing 5 to 10 units following rain. Corn is resilient.

I'm no agronomist...but I have a ? for the @WiscWeeds crew. Went and plucked a few #waterhemp off the headlands and I'm not finding any seeds. Did I delay emergence enough that they couldn't reproduce in time? Are the seeds that small? @arnaman6

This is where solar should be placed. Every parking lot. Every city building. Every ground between the roads on the interstate systems.
NOT ON FARMGROUND.
The parking lot at Disneyland #Paris just went #solar. With over 67,000 #solarpanels it will be one of the largest solar canopys in Europe.
Shouldn't every parking lot get a #solarpower update? We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate

Straight up common sense!
China may bar solar developers from building panels on farmland as the government weighs the importance of food security against its clean energy goals trib.al/51CzUOi
An awesome look at #kernza with Nichole Tautges from @MichaelFieldsAg A ton of promise for this perennial grain crop. The #SoilHealth #regenerativeagriculture benefits could be huge! Look at those roots!!! Winter #wheat left #Kernza right
Sharing an awesome day in the field learning about #regenerativeagriculture with a top innovator @AdamLasch1 Digging plants and checking out what diverse #covercrop can do for the soil.
Same! It's especially odd how state plays a role. N IL it's NBD. In NC WI they want nothing to do with it.
It won't be long before planting begins, but remember that sampling can safely occur after planting and emergence without any disturbance or damage to the growing crop. #samplesoil now #soilsampling
Finally, a weed management talk that I can understand!!! @arnaman6 comparing switching weed mgt products in the field to switching your drink. You cant always get what you want! #cornsoy @WiscWeeds
It's amazing how many different ways people are trying to identify #phosphorus in #soil. It's even more staggering to think the newest test is turning 40 soon! Guessing WI accounts for the 14% in NCR13 not using M3 or AA for #potassium? @JDjonesPKL @Field_Updates @NPKetc
Sharing an awesome high level look at markets with @delaneyhowell07 A look at black swan events, weather, consumer issues and much more! @AgNewsDaily #corn #plant22 #agriculture
Associate professor and 3rd year organic farmer @BadgerLuck is back at it. A ton of quality info to share on roller crimping rye. #fieldday #organic #covercrops
If only there was an app for that... #planttissueplus by @Field_Updates From #corn and #soybeans to #cannabis you need detailed records
There’s no better teacher than first-hand growing experience.
If you haven’t already, start recording your grows. Records like these are invaluable in helping you fine-tune your grow and achieve a successful harvest. #GreenThumbThursday
It's time to #plantwyffels here in SC WI and on #WyffelsWednesday to boot! Thanks to DSM @QuadeSteve and McGinnis Seeds for the help. I'm excited to host the regional agronomy plot and can't wait to shell some #corn. I'm really pumped to see the results from #W5778!!! #plant21
