Since 24 May 2026, SA bans household bulbs under 105 lumens/watt. In practice that leaves LEDs as the only legal option, and NRCS is now raiding shops and online stores.
My concern: I don't believe LED lighting is the best for our eyes, and several eye doctors I've spoken to share that view. Yet government has removed the choice entirely, and the gazette cites no health assessment.
Why it matters: a decision affecting every household's eyes deserves a proper public health debate, not just an efficiency rule.

Recently I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about being asked to clean an Airbnb when they’ve already paid a cleaning fee
As a host, I find this attitude quite worrying
My wife and I rent out the apartment in Germany. We charge a €145 cleaning fee, and we still expect guests to:
1. Strip the beds and start a wash, separating whites from colours
2. Wash, dry and put away all dishes
3. Sweep and mop the floors
4. Take out all rubbish, separating paper, cardboard, clear glass, coloured glass, plastics, metal, organic waste and residual waste
5. Take bottles with a deposit to the supermarket return machine.
6. Send photos showing the apartment is ready before the 8:30am checkout
These tasks must be completed before departure. If you have an early flight, allow time the evening before
The cleaning fee pays for professional cleaning. It does not pay for someone to pick up after you
Here in Europe, we teach children to leave a place as they found it
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the same from adults on holiday

Just STOP STEALING and our fuel price will be on par with Botswana (who we supply)..
🚨🚨⛽️⛽️Easing cost-of-living pressures for motorists, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced temporary fuel levy relief funded by an R17.1 billion tax revenue boost. Starting 4 November, the Treasury will slash the fuel levy by R3 per litre for diesel and R1.50 per litre for petrol, providing critical relief.

Fuel levy relief offers welcome breathing room, but South Africans are still paying for years of wasteful government spending. With the MTBPS now tabled, what must government do to ensure taxpayers’ money is spent responsibly and those responsible for waste are held accountable?

BizNews used to speak to Polo 7 all the time and now they act like they lost his number. He was always praising Sibiya on that platform.
One would think this is the perfect time to call the man and ask him to reflect on his dishonourably discharged friend Mr Shadrack Sibiya.

Nearly two years later, SAPS confirms inquest dockets are still open - zero arrests, zero charges, zero prosecutions for the deaths.
Public Protector found systemic failures in Gauteng food safety enforcement and understaffing of inspectors. Families are still waiting.
