Since falling 2-0 behind after 27 minutes against Watford on Oct 31, Norwich City have scored 12 without reply, taken all nine points, and the pressure is (rightly) off Philippe Clement (tbf slightly lifted with win at Charlton pre-Watford after 5 straight Championship defeats). Paris Maghoma flying, 4 goals in 4 (after 0 in 8), started the 5-0 rout of Bristol City today, decent return for only a reported £800k fee from Brentford last January. #OTBC

I think we can safely say Rachel Reeves is the only person who thinks her big increase in employment taxes made 'the economy stronger'. Everyone else thinks it destroyed jobs on a massive scale.

All this bullshit of “we might get a VAT cut in the spring”. Oh do fuck off. There’ll be some other drama. Some excuse. Some bullshit. If you can’t make tough decisions where they need to be made i.e. a proper budget, you won’t suddenly find billions down the sofa in a spring statement. We are being conned. Piss off.

Now rebranded Conference for Future Hospitality ‘Not Workers’…
Spending the day prepping my speech for tomorrows largest conference for future Hospitality Leaders delivered by The Institute of Hospitality @IoH_Online in London. Yes, its been a disappointing week for Hospitality, but I strongly believe we are the best sector to help get young people into work. When my sons old enough, I'll be encouraging him to get a part time job to help him through college, as it's the best way to learn life skills, that can't be taught sat behind a desk.

What an extraordinary statement. Apparently, according to Labour, employers aren't working people. Tell that to the small business owners working 60-hour weeks, risking their savings, paying their staff and keeping their businesses afloat. Labour can play with definitions and indulge in endless whataboutery, but it cannot escape the consequences of its decisions. Taxing employers affects jobs, wages and the very people Labour claims to protect.

1/ When a Treasury Minister explicitly states, "I don't think employers are working people," it isn't a careless gaffe. It is a mask-slip. It reveals a deeply entrenched, 19th-century ideological rot at the heart of modern governance. Let’s break down why this is so dangerous. 🧵

'I don't think employers are working people.' This irrational contempt for small business owners who put everything on the line to create new wealth & jobs in our local communities is so damaging for the country.

The veil slips. ‘I don’t think employers are working people’ - did she really just say that?!? The other person in history that thought that was Stalin.

Hilarious, if it wasn’t so serious. One of Burnham’s Labour MP’s demanding a private company must engage with her to save jobs, which her government has destroyed. The devastation of Britain under a socialist regime.

@JohnHealey_MP The plot thickens. This is in fact a lie. Rates have been cut, but not as much as they were put up by @UKLabour already. #Hospitality @greeneking you should be ashamed of yourselves and I will never drink a pint in your venues whilst you contoune to support this shambolic government.

Turns out the Labour government is baffled by the fact that Poundland, a company that sells high volume goods at rock bottom prices with very thin margins, might go bankrupt after they’ve continually increased their labour costs That’s astoundingly cretinous
🚨NEW: Business Secretary Jonathon Reynolds' team has written to the owner of Poundland to "establish the latest situation" amid concerns the retailer could soon collapse into administration 12,000 jobs are at risk

Were you listening to a different budget to me. I heard very little for day to small businesses. And small amount of rate relief against a huge increase Labour oversaw in April - and EVERY other cost line UP! It was just a massive word salad of disappointmen! 🤡

Heartbreaking on two levels: 1. Small business owners dejected and may give up 2. Entrepreneurs won't bother starting So many chains weighing down those who actually want to take risk and try and build something. Success and ambition is being destroyed.
Maybe its just me, but running a small business has never - certainly not in my lifetime - been as difficult as it is right now and I'm struggling to find reasons to carry it on. Its certainly not for the work life balance, or for the money. Its not for an easy life, or to relieve avoid stress. So what is it for? To keep other people employed? To keep paying ever more tax? Its been 25 years, and I think I'm done.

A bitterly disappointing budget for #pubs. Considering the Prime Minister’s claim that “cavalry is coming” for pubs, what happened? Who ambushed them?! Not only no real help but #Budget2026 increases costs for at least 95% of UK pubs. As bad as any budget in recent years.

Small businesses have no chance in the UK.

A new business that wants to employ just 3 workers on the mimimum wage needs to find almost 100K after the NI contributions. Crazy.

BREAKING The OBR suggests that successive increases in the national living wage and the employment rights act will hit jobs It says the employment right act will have a ‘negative economic impact’ and hit businesses through ‘increased uncertainty, lost flexibility and higher Labour related costs’ It says that these will ‘more than offset’ any potential increase in productivity

For now. . . Either way, this is a massive let down for the Hospitality sector. @andyburnham & @JohnHealey_MP should hang their heads in shame.

I’m wondering where the cavalry for hospitality is @andyburnham ? Don’t talk about business rates. Removing business rates for those rates under 18k is a JOKE when our rates were changed from 18.5 to 73.5k less than a year ago!!
