Ruhe in Frieden Juha Miettinen
18.01.1960 - 18.04.2026

Germany โrejects the accusationโ by J.D. Vance that the EU was interfering in Hungary's election (gov spox)
โI would like to point out that the U.S. Vice President was in Hungary just a few days before the election. This fact alone speaks for itself as to who is interfering.
Most Europeans have no idea how absolutely furious with Europe America is.
This is not just another disagreement.
Betrayal is not something you just let slide. And the mouthy responses from Europeans are pouring gas on that fire.
They have misjudged the situation gravely & it will have grave consequences for Europeโ economically AND militarily.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Polls show 59% of Americans disapprove of U.S. military action in Iran, with 60-68% holding favorable views of NATO. While some U.S. officials accused Europe of betrayal for urging de-escalation, no polls indicate broad American fury toward Europe.

History of the world according to MAGA
In the beginning, God created America.
1492 - Italian-American Columbus discovers America.
1776 - American farmers defeat the entire British Empire alone. (The French were just on holiday.)
1918 - America single-handedly wins WW1. Arriving 3 years late counts.
1945 - America single-handedly wins WW2. Arriving 2.5 years late still counts.
1954 - America wins the Korean War. Alone.
1975 - America could have won Vietnam. Decided not to bother.
1991 - America wins Gulf War. 35-nation coalition was just there for the photos.
2001 - America wins Afghanistan alone. For 20 years. Then Biden.
2016 - Trump elected. Russia not mentioned.
2020 - Trump loses. Fraud. Obviously.
2024 - Trump wins. Landslide. Very different.
2025 - America generously threatens to invade Canada. Tariffs the entire world. Europe ungrateful.
2026 - America offer to liberate Greenland and closes the worldโs most important waterway to demonstrate strategic genius. Europe refuses to fix it. Ungrateful freeloaders.

A republic is a democracy - thank you for coming to my ted talk
If Trump continues to pursue his strategy of aligning himself with Russia, the US needs to be considered a hostile actor.
Consequently, we need to look hard at the presence of US forces on European territory, and fast. We wouldn't allow Russian bases on European soil either.

โWhy do some British people not like Donald Trump?โ Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response:
A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace โ all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trumpโs limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.
Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing โ not once, ever. I donโt say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility โ for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, itโs a fact. He doesnโt even seem to understand what a joke is โ his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.
Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesnโt just talk in crude, witless insults โ he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.
There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. Itโs all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we donโt. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. Heโs not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. Heโs more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.
And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff โ the Queensberry rules of basic decency โ and he breaks them all. He punches downwards โ which a gentleman should, would, could never do โ and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless โ and he kicks them when they are down.
So the fact that a significant minority โ perhaps a third โ of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think โYeah, he seems like my kind of guyโ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:
โข Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.
โข You donโt need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.
This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, itโs impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws โ he would make a Trump.
And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: โMy Godโฆ whatโฆ haveโฆ Iโฆ created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.

That post from Ursula von der Leyen is getting quite a bit of attention on social media. It's mostly people poking fun at Europeans for not wanting to work at weekends (often from self-loathing Europeans).
But seriously โ what are Europeans supposed to say? The US and Israel have launched an attack on Iran. An attack that in no way adheres to international rules. And the Europeans were not consulted in the slightest.
In Europe, we have a war โ Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine. That should be our focus. The US has demonstrated time and again that it has no respect for Europe. So why should we even have any opinion on this whatsoever?
Europe's view of the Iranian regime is crystal clear and always has been. That hasn't changed โ and everyone ought to know it.
Foreign policy is not conducted on social media โ and it is exceedingly rare that a decades-long problem can be fixed with missiles over a weekend. It has never happened.
It is therefore completely irrelevant what the Europeans might have to say in the middle of an attack whose outcome nobody can predict.
So yes, it is perfectly reasonable to announce that we in the EU will meet on Monday โ and yes, there has undoubtedly been a great deal of inter-European communication in the run-up to this attack and over the weekend, but political decisions are simply best taken when proper procedures are followed and a strategy is put in place.
Trump may well believe that problems are solved with bombs and idiotic pronouncements on social media, but day by day the long-term costs of this behaviour are mounting โ geopolitically and economically.
And yes, when the time comes to clean up after Trump's mess, I rather suspect the Americans will come expecting the Europeans to muck in with the clean-up.
That'll be a no from us.
