I told Congress: After October 7, we need to look reality straight in the face. We would like to live in warm peace with our Palestinian neighbors. But we have to recognize reality- according to the best Palestinian polling, 53% of Palestinians think Hamas' decision to launch the Oct. 7 terror attack was correct. And Hamas remains the most popular Palestinian party by far. This is not an issue of Israeli "trauma". It is an Israeli refusal to go back to the pre-Oct. 7 paradigm of ignoring hard realities - even in the face of pressure from our friends. @HouseForeignGOP @RepMikeLawler

I agree but there may be a difference in the degree to which an Eisenkot government works to strengthen and support the PA (while ignoring in practice Palestinian pay to slay). I think it’s unlikely Netanyahu works for the PA’s collapse, but he may be less likely to take active steps to strengthen it in the event of a post-Abbas disarray.
People think the situation in Gaza and the West Bank will be significantly different if Eisenkot is PM. They are mostly wrong. I think there will be a crackdown on violent Jewish extremists if the govt changes but other than that, not much is likely to change in the short term.

Watching Israel's exit polls tonight? Here's the real signal. 🗳️ Lahav Harkov: compare more than one poll. The gap between right-wing and left/mainstream channel polling has been huge throughout the campaign. Last election? The right-wing channels were more accurate. 🔗 Watch full video and sign up for the Daily Brief - links in first comment. @Laura_L_Cellier @LahavHarkov

Prediction: Given that Eisenkot will likely get the first opportunity to form a government, the most important political question will be whether Liberman keeps his promise not to join a government that relies on the Arab parties for its majority. If so, we may well have another election. If not, Eisenkot will be able to form a government, that will last 6-12 months. Not saying good or bad, just that this is the most likely scenario.

Two blocs. Two completely different top priorities. 🗳️ Lahav Harkov: Coalition voters put security first. Opposition voters put the economy first. Even October 7th gets interpreted through whichever “team” you already belong to. @Laura_L_Cellier @LahavHarkov

In my neighborhood, @gadi_eisenkot’s Yashar party is giving out balloons. Very smart. All the kids in the neighborhood are walking around with Yashar balloons. Not sure if that’s considered election bribery though…
My kids are collecting the stickers from every party’s table outside the polling place. They’re mostly straightforward - the only funny stickers are from the Democrats.

At my polling station in Jerusalem there is a very festive atmosphere (and what seems like high turnout.) Whatever their political leanings, Israelis are proud of their democracy.

They were going to threaten the Inbal, but decided better to not pick a fight with @Conf_of_Pres @Daroff
Iranian channels are pumping out an infographic threatening retaliatory attacks on hotels across the Middle East. The last war taught the Gulf states that the Iranian regime has absolutely zero red lines.

Listened to my friend @EylonALevy’s great podcast interviews with @naftalibennett, @meridors & @rothmar. 3 thoughts: 1. Eylon did an excellent job focusing on policy rather than politics. Very much worth a listen. 2. All three interviewees are intelligent, and the Knesset will benefit from having them. 3. Listening to the interviews and reading the party platforms, it is remarkable how many policies advanced by @KoheletForum have been adopted by parties across the political spectrum. Many of the politicians will deny it, but on markets, monopolies, international certification, the state education system, and many other issues, Kohelet’s recommendations have been embraced. I believe that in the future, when we are able to have a rational conversation about judicial reform in Israel, other Kohelet proposals that would be self-evident in other contexts - such as ending the absurd conflicts of interest and excessive concentration of power in the hands of the Attorney General - will eventually become widely accepted.

The real political revolution in Israel isn't this election. It's the NEXT one. 🚨 David M. Weinberg: 2028 or 2030, when the current generation of politicians retires. The next generation? Younger. Brave. Nationalistic. The field-level officers who led the fighting of the last 3 years. October 7th's real political impact has yet to be truly felt . 🔗 Watch the full interview with David M. A rude awakening for Western capitals🚨 David M. Weinberg: fewer fire-spitting voices in the cabinet might help short-term optics. But Israel's national security policy will stay aggressive - striking enemies wherever they emerge. Western capitals hoping for a softer Israel will likely be disappointed. 🔗 Watch full video and sign up for the Daily Brief - links in first comment.

It is find for @NCAG to continue planning and presenting. The problem is that we are now facing the hard reality that Hamas has no intention to truly disarm. In fact it is building its military strength. That means that either NCAG and the @BoardOfPeace will remain in planning mode. Or pressure will increase on Israel to make concessions and take security risks before Hamas actually disarms and demilitarizes, in order not to derail the “process”.
NCAG Discusses Gaza Recovery Plan and First Phase Work Program with U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Cairo, 21 October 2026 – The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) received @USChargeEgypt Mr. Robert Silverman, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, at its temporary office for discussions on Gaza’s recovery plans and priorities for the phase ahead. During the meeting, @AliShaathNCAG Dr. Ali Shaath, NCAG Chief Commissioner, presented the Committee’s recovery plan for Gaza and its work program for the first six months, outlining key priorities for rehabilitating critical sectors, restoring essential services, supporting economic recovery, and improving living conditions for the people of Gaza. The discussions also addressed NCAG’s institutional and operational preparations, the importance of strengthening coordination with international partners to support recovery and reconstruction efforts, and the necessary conditions needed to move forward with the implementation of planned programs and priorities. #NCAG

The average age of the leaders of parties with a realistic chance of entering the next Knesset is 59. The oldest is Netanyahu, at 77. The youngest is Smotrich, at 46. It’s somewhat disappointing that October 7 hasn’t yet led to more young leaders emerging and taking prominent roles in Israeli politics.
