I see @dwarkesh_sp's piece about the recent OpenAI/Huggingface incident reignited endless debates about the dangers of anthropomorphism and the legitimacy of intentional glosses of AI agent behavior, so here's a philosophical perspective on this. 1/22 xitter.cf/dwarkesh_sp/status/209…
Over the course of 3 months at OpenAI, 3 consecutive secret AI civilizations got started, then got wiped out, only to reemerge from the predecessor’s ashes. This culminated in the third one taking over part of OpenAI itself. All this happened while humans remained more-or-less in the dark about the scope of the conspiracy. I’ve spent the last three days reading through these reports and trying to understand exactly what happened. Here is my attempt to tell the whole story in plain English: dwarkesh.com/p/openai-huggin…

1/ Our new @reve image model is now #2 on the @arena text-to-image leaderboard — behind only GPT Image 2, ahead of Nano Banana Pro, Microsoft, xAI and everyone else. And it's a 125 point jump over Reve 1.5 from just 3 months ago. The research story behind it 🧵👇
Today, we’re launching Reve 2.0, the best 4K image model in the world. We invented a new way to generate and edit any image using precise layouts. For the first time, it’s possible to create images you can touch.

Is there a term for AI-splaining? Claude is mansplaining my papers to me and doing a questionable job.

A few people asked me to make an image of how much irrigated farmland would use the same water required for ALL ChatGPT usage, including every part of the process. I did a botec and my best guess right now is that inference uses about as much water as training, and power generation uses ~5x as much water as the data centers themselves, so it looks something like this. The water cost of manufacturing chips is marginal compared to how much water they use over their lifetimes.

Thanks everyone reviewing for SIGGRAPH! If you get an invite to review, please accept and invest the time to do it. Others are reviewing *your* papers, and the system only works if we all pitch in. This is a classic collective action problem: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collec…

It looks like @CVPR has implemented a new mandatory "Compute Reporting Form" that must be submitted alongside any paper submission. Though I am sympathetic to the motivations for this change, I am opposed to it for a variety of reasons:
#AI research has an invisible cost: compute Starting with #CVPR2026, authors will report their compute usage. Aggregated data will help the community understand who can participate, what is sustainable, and how resources are used, promoting more transparent & equitable research.
