Fascinating virtual performance piece by artist Ye Funa that explores the beautification app, Meitu, at the #MultimediaEncounters conference by @UCL_mal. Will be incorporating this into my research on Ye's practice re. mediated and embodied forms of self re-presentations.

The word "robot" premiered on stage in Prague 100 years ago this month. It was a critique of mechanization and the ways it can dehumanize people: bit.ly/3i7fNe0
Thanks very much to @CHASE_DTP #CHASEVE2020 for providing the platform for my first ever conference presentation. Very impressed by the huge range of fascinating projects and looking forward to following up with everyone I've spoken to.
Sunday's musical journey through the taigas and lakes of Siberia. Guided by Sophy Roberts' mesmerising narrative and the music of Aram Khachaturian, a Soviet Armenian composer and one of the few musical greats not to have emigrated or ended up in a gulag.
Many thanks to @DrStruthers for her amazing talk with @CHASE_DTP & @CourtauldRes on 1700s watch forgery. More importantly, thank you for introducing me to the term 'masstige' (prestige for the masses), which is now among my favourite words.

Learned a lot about overcoming writer's block at the writing workshop with @j_mcconnachie, who is an excellent teacher and incredibly generous with his time & advice. 100% would recommend it to anyone looking to hone their craft, whether it's academic or creative work.
Reading @raguklemenso 's excellent study on Czechoslovak gaming communities during the Soviet era. Enjoyed the nuanced take on gaming as a form of de Certeau's 'tactic of the weak'. Will see how this might also apply to the study of subversive memes.

A fitting time to revisit Hannah Arendt's work:
'In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and nothing was true.'
Enjoyed the great intro to @Mat_Witness workshop by @alixebovey, @calbourne_lady & @GraceANagle . Looking forward to seeing the 2020-1 programme! Open to all students across CHASE institutions. material-witness.co.uk/#:~:t….
