Today we welcomed State Secretary Cezary Tomczyk from Poland’s Ministry of National Defence to Saab in Karlskrona. The visit highlighted Swedish-Polish cooperation, including meeting Polish Navy personnel training on Swedish submarines and seeing sections of the Swedish A26.

Canada joining JEF may be only part of the story.
The Nordic air forces are already building an integrated air-defence structure centred on NATO’s new CAOC in Bodø. Canada is an Arctic NATO ally, is moving toward GlobalEye AEW&C and is deepening defence ties with Northern Europe.
It is not difficult to imagine Canadian air assets eventually plugging directly into that northern air-defence architecture.
Canadian Arctic → North Atlantic → Nordic airspace → Baltic.
Increasingly, one operational picture.

Today, we just signed the definitive contract for three Swedish A26 submarines for Poland. This is a historic milestone for both Poland and Sweden.
It is a very large and long-term deal. It is worth approximately 50 billion Swedish kronor, and will help make the Polish Navy one of the strongest in all of NATO.
A strong Polish submarine force strengthens security in our shared Baltic Sea, and across NATO as a whole. When Sweden and Poland share the most advanced capabilities in the Baltic Sea, our part of the world becomes safer.
This deal also strengthens the competitiveness of both our countries. The project is expected to create more than 7,000 jobs in Poland.
Hundreds of Polish companies will become new subcontractors to SAAB, which plans to invest up to one hundred million euros in Poland.
And through the joint development of the submarines, our countries’ defence industries will draw closer together.
In Sweden too, this will create a significant number of jobs at the shipyards in Landskrona and Karlskrona, where the submarines will be built.
The first submarine will be delivered in 2031. In the meantime, we will lease a Swedish submarine as a “gap-filler” to the Polish Navy. Training of Polish sailors begins as early as August.

Saab has today signed a contract with the Polish State Treasury Armaments Agency for the production and delivery of three A26-type submarines.
The order is valued at approximately SEK 47 billion.
