Sometimes, doing the right thing means risking being blamed for it. My daughter may have broken a rule, but she refused to let an elderly woman suffer when she needed help the most. Rules can protect a business, but compassion can save a life. The world needs more people who choose kindness even when nobody is watching.
My daughter came home from her part time job and was sobbing her heart out.
"I did something bad. But at the time, I thought I had no choice but to do it."
When I listened carefully to the whole story, it turned out to be like this.
During the time my daughter was manning the store alone, an elderly woman who seemed to have dementia arrived by bicycle.

There was a tag with her address and contact info, so when I looked it up on my smartphone, it seemed she'd biked there from over 10 km away.
I called right away, and her son answered.
"We've been searching for her since morning. I'll come pick her up right away. She hasn't eaten anything, so I'll definitely pay for it, could you please give her something to eat?"
My daughter, being new to this and with the manager not there, hesitated but ended up giving her about $3 worth of food.
Her thermos was empty too, so she gave her tap water.
