Pope Leo, during a prayer vigil in Montevideo: "When being just and honest comes at a price, pay it. When forgiving seems
like a defeat, forgive. When everyone tells you to think of yourselves first, do not be afraid to put
yourselves in the last place. Be willing to give up time, money, comfort and plans to serve others. May those who see you find themselves asking: βWhy do they live in this way? Where do they get
this freedom? Why do they love one another so much?β"

Our Lady of the Thirty Three has a fascinating history. I got to writr about it for @OSVNews. Picked up by @AngelusNews here: angelusnews.com/news/pope-leβ¦
Our Lady of the Thirty-Three in central place for todayβs papal Mass in Uruguayβs Paysandu.
Yesterday Pope Leo said, opening his address to authorities:
βOver the next few days, I will have the pleasure of visiting various places in this country, of encountering its history and meeting the men and women who, in so many different ways, are part of the life of the nation.
Among these places, Florida holds a special place, for it is where Our Lady of the Thirty-Three, Patroness of Uruguay, is venerated.
As I begin my visit, I would like to place under her protection all those whom I will meet along the way. Her presence accompanied a decisive chapter in the history of the nation and continues to unite very different generations of Uruguayans.β

Mate is one of several things the nations of el Rio de la Plata have in common, followed by asado (steak) and dulce de leche.
There are differences in all three in both countries. But one thing is true: they are incredibly good, and core elements of our culture, particularly the first two. It's not just flavor. It's culture, it's encounter, family, friendship. The mate is shared, never to be denied of requested, and never to ne rejected if offered. Pasado, under normal circumstances lasts anything between 4 to 10 hours.
Pope Leo made it clear in Paysandu he knows how to talk symbolism of Latin America, making Uruguyans reach cloud nine when he reflected on the meaning of mate and adding: "Mate has even reached Rome!"
"Let us consider a symbol found in every home in this country, in every place of study and work, and at every gathering of friends. I am referring to mate, that drink so characteristic of South America, whose profound meaning you can explain better than I can.
Surely, many of you enjoyed mate on your way to this celebration today and will have some again on your journey home.
... Mate has even reached Rome!
Mate is a sign of familiarity, friendship and encounter. It teaches us to share and to be together, strengthening the bonds that unite us as brothers and sisters. It is a sign of welcome, integration and shared values.
'Drinking mate' is a ritual rich in symbolism, in which dialogue takes place without words and every detail holds its own meaning. I also think of those moments when one drinks mate alone, silently and prayerfully. In those moments of solitude, how often have so many of you entrusted to God your concerns and needs, your deepest desires and longings!"

The protection of the unborn and the support of those who welcome them are inseparable. Β The family remains the primary setting in which each person is welcomed and learns to live with others. Saint John Paul II, who also had the joy of visiting this land, expressed this in a phrase that retains all its original force: βThe future of humanity passes by way of the family (FAMILIARIS CONSORTIO, 86).β β Pope Leo today in Uruguay vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/eβ¦

PEOPLE OF HOPE: FAITH IN ACTION, LOVE IN SERVICE!
What a beautiful morning of faith, gratitude, and hope in the Diocese of Palm Beach!
Today, I had the joy of celebrating a special Mass of Thanksgiving for Catholic Charities at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, as we welcomed the People of Hope Mobile Museum, a wonderful national initiative of Catholic Charities USA, to our diocesan family!
During my homily, reflecting on the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish, I reminded everyone of Jesusβ powerful invitation: βGive them something to eat yourselves!β Jesus never asks us for what we do not have. He asks us to offer what we do have, trusting that He will multiply our generosity and love.
βYou didnβt multiply the bread. God did. But He chose your hands to do it!β
Following Mass, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the People of Hope Mobile Museum alongside Bishop Emeritus Gerald M. Barbarito and Dr. Ellen Wayne, CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach.
Created by Catholic Charities USA, this extraordinary traveling museum shares more than 40 inspiring stories of faith, compassion, and neighbors helping neighbors across our nation. Through powerful personal testimonies and interactive exhibits, it reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can transform lives.
My heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ellen Wayne and the entire Catholic Charities family for their tireless dedication to serving those most in need, and to Catholic Charities USA for bringing this meaningful experience to our diocese. As I shared during Mass, Catholic Charities is the Eucharist walking out the church doors!
I warmly invite everyone to visit the People of Hope Mobile Museum at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola today, Friday, November 6, and tomorrow, Saturday, November 7!
May this experience inspire each of us to ask the question I shared during my homily: βLord, what story do you want to write with my life?β
