disagree. you should crack jokes in seminars if you feel like it. a good laugh breaks through a string of dull talks. even if it has a small professional cost, don't let the killjoys who would exact it grind you down. have fun in your life

6/10 You are not Jerry Seinfeld. Few people are actually funny. Some senior people get away with it, and that's where the damage starts: juniors watch, conclude it's fair game, and repeat the joke. If you're a young scholar, you'll never regret a joke you did not say.

i don’t like it when people refer to paul mccartney as “macca.” i’ve only ever seen it written and don’t know how it’s pronounced (“muh-kaa” like the bird?) but it just doesn’t fit. stop trying to make macca happen
