A childhood nightmare helped inspire one of The Cure’s darkest and most distinctive hits. Robert Smith filled “Lullaby” with unsettling images of the mysterious Spiderman creeping towards his victim. The track appeared on the band’s 1989 album Disintegration and became their highest-charting UK single, reaching No. 5. This Top of the Pops performance captured The Cure as the song brought their gothic sound firmly into the mainstream.
