Over the last two decades, video games have become closer and closer to movies. This is bad as interactivity is the heart of video games. Games aren't movies and shouldn't emulate them.

I've written a new blog post! This time, I discuss what we can do in software development to prepare for success on an organizational level: thinkingsideways.net/people/…
I wish this article had existed when I started my software career. It would've saved my a lot of grief over the years. It's a bit sad that useful contributions that aren't in the top priorities get ignored but it's the way it is.

I just finished reading "it doesn't have to be crazy at work" by @dhh and @jasonfried. It's a wonderful book that I highly recommend. The idea of building a calm company is so brilliant that I wonder why this isn't just the default.
It's quite amusing that the term "clean code" can now mean "code I like" as well as "overengineered code I hate" depending on who uses it.
Even though most people will probably agree that software documentation is important, the topic of how to do it best is quite underdiscussed. Hence, I decided to do something about it and discuss the topic in my new blog post: thinkingsideways.net/process…
Most hard problems in software development are people problems instead of technical ones. Solving these problems can be painful and difficult. Sometimes, we can use modularization and increased empowerment as a mitigation technique: thinkingsideways.net/people/…
If we look at currently successful software, we have to conclude that customers don't care about performance. Otherwise, there would be a turbo @Jira or a turbo @ServiceNow tearing up the market.
