🇦🇺 Queensland Sports Minister Tim Mander is facing growing scrutiny over the cost and delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic venues programme, with the government declining to publish project deadlines while negotiating major contracts.
The venues budget stands at A$7.1 billion (€4.45bn), but a recent Resolve Political Monitor survey found that around two-thirds of Queensland voters had little or no confidence that the government would stay within the promised budget.
The poll surveyed 434 voters between 6 and 10 October, with scepticism reported across party lines, adding pressure on the government to demonstrate cost control and transparency.

There are two movements — labor and transit advocates — who decided not to fight the LA24/28 bid a decade ago, choosing instead to heel and embrace the Olympics. The strategy was to do nothing for a decade and 'leverage gains' out of LA28 and the IOC.
Where are those gains now?

LA28 is facing growing scrutiny over financial transparency, ticket pricing and whether local businesses will benefit from the 2028 Olympic Games.
Los Angeles City Council member Monica Rodriguez has warned that inadequate financial safeguards could expose taxpayers to significant costs, particularly for security, transport and essential services. “Bankruptcy cannot be the legacy of these Games,” she wrote in a letter to LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover.
Rodriguez has proposed a “Zero-Cost Principle” requiring the city to be fully reimbursed for additional Games-related expenses before any surplus funds are allocated to legacy projects. The proposal aims to protect public finances and ensure core city services are not subsidising the Olympics.

Reminder: the City of Long Beach is severely underfunded. And, for some reason, they are also signed on to host the LA28 Olympics and have poured at least $100M into sports infrastructure.
Meanwhile, here's what the city looks like this weekend. Priorities are upside-down.

It's 2026 and no local official or candidate has actually explained in any sort of detail why LA "can't" cancel the Olympics, meanwhile the City of Inglewood just told Stan Kroenke and SoFi Stadium their contract is illegit and the courts back the city.
