A Brit, and Scottish specifically, invented Penicillin. Saving literally billions of third world lives. Scotland paid the entire West's "reparations". So fuck off.

People who still can't understand (or claim not to understand) why people voted for Trump are choosing not to understand. They don't *want* to understand, because understanding would undermine their self-identification as a Good and Smart person. The reality is that Trump is the only thing protecting Western democracy. He is the line between sovereignty and globalism. You can claim not to like his personality all you like, because, let's be frank, it makes you feel classy and better-than the plebs, but if your own personal identity is more important than protecting the free world, you are in fact not a good and moral person, but a selfish and unthinking person.

It’s incredibly controversial these days to be a rational human being.

It was horrific when the young woman was set on fire aboard a Chicago L train last year. While she survived she has burns over 85% of her body and life long issues. None the lone victim by any means Now this man is stabbed in the back of his neck by a homeless man #SafetyFirst

One of my besties from HS did three years in the Peace Corps in Guinea. She is very type A. For three years she drew up business plans, (tried to teach) taught classes on how to make sellable, sustainable products that would absolutely lift families out of poverty and generate generational wealth. People didn’t show up, materials disappeared, equipment disappeared, there was general apathy and boredom while she was absolutely busting her ass. When she came home she seemed incredibly depressed and had a hard time re-acclimating. She made excuses “it’s the culture” “it’s not how they do things”. She made excuses for how the people she was trying to help basically shit on her efforts. To this day I don’t think wild horses could drag it out of her but I KNOW deep down she knows she wasted three years of her life and made ZERO difference to her village.
My uncle did a mission trip to Africa to teach a village how to raise pigs for food. They flew in with a bunch of pigs, built pens for them, Food and water troughs, and taught them how to breed them so they could always have meat. Two weeks of work and teaching. They went back a year later to check on the village. They had thrown a giant party the night after my uncle left, slaughtered and ate all the pigs, sold the feeders and fencing, and were really pissed off that the mission didn't bring them more pigs.

The Brandon Johnson administration is spending approximately 9.6 million in the first year of a new program involving CTA Safe Ride Specialists, civilians reportedly trained to de-escalate violent situations on the Red, Green, and Blue Lines. With safety remaining a concern for many Chicago transit riders, the big question is whether this program will make a real difference. Do you think spending 9.6 million on civilian specialists is the right move, or should Chicago take a different approach to transit safety?
