Apparently the New Statesman posted this image of Brand and Statesman journalists in 2013. Dismaying.
As my parish priest has it with regard to the US elections:
‘Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad;
let the sea and all within it thunder praise.
Let the land and all it bears rejoice.’ (Psalm 96.11-12)

“An exceptionally rare painting, described as one of the earliest landscapes in western art, goes on auction in London next month. It was completed around 1520 by Albrecht Altdorfer, who is widely regarded as Europe’s first pure landscape oil artist.”

Quite revealing that Labour will work happily with the Tories or even Reform but are determined to turn Green Party opposition to a genocide into a local political football.
Andy Burnham. Keir Starmer. The Labour Party still feels very Peter Mandleson.

🟢 EXCL: Understand Green cllrs on Havant Council have submitted a motion of no confidence in the Labour leader after Labour pulled out of the power sharing deal over the ZIR motion. The Havant Greens had said they recognised problematic elements of the motion but denied it was anti semitic and said they could not ask the party leadership to reject it as it was voted for democratically by members.
Havant was ran by a “rainbow coalition” of Labour, Greens & LDs.

The government’s proposed changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain could make some refugees wait up to 30 years before they can apply for settlement.
That means people who have fled war and persecution would have their status reviewed every 2.5 years for decades, living in constant precarity when they should be settling into their new home.
They would be vulnerable to any future government that deems their country “safe”, even if it isn’t, and sends them back.
These performatively cruel policies go against everything the Labour Party is meant to stand for. I urge the government to drop them.
Ian Winter KC, Russell Brand's barrister, quotes St John Henry Newman in his closing speech. The Guardian doesn't have its quotation marks in quite the right place, and — just to note — Newman and Brand have nothing in common.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

"I should just point out that this is the ninth time we have invited unelected gobshite Zia Yusuf onto Question Time."

As so often, @BBCQuestionTime let down by having an idiot on the panel. This week the too often recurring Zia Yusuf. Had to switch off. Why does the BBC favour liars?
