Excited our paper led by G.Sharpe on Synechococcus nitrogen gene loss is out. We used quantitative metagenomics to show dominant Syn populations at Station P lost ability to take up nitrate and nitrite.

I'm rather amazed that this basement algae upflow air-lift chemostat has been running continuously for > 5 years, yet is still basically ~100% Tetraselmis sp. Dilution rate is 0.1 1/d. Every two months algae is scrubbed from the acrylic tube (in kitchen sink 😁),
