Spent the weekend testing out our new Universe badges with my son. He gave it a 10/10. RP2350 on MicroPython, 2.8" TFT, accelerometer that auto-flips the screen, capacitive gaming controls, and an AGENTS.md so Copilot can code + deploy to it. 🤓

We worked with maintainers, including @tianzhouchen, to build a better way to track GitHub stars over time.
The new API returns daily star counts without exposing who starred a project, making star history easier to retrieve, cheaper to serve, and more private.
Here's how we built it:

Even when the end-to-end tests pass, I sometimes want to see a feature working before I approve a PR.
The GitHub Copilot app lets me watch my agent run tests, build the app, and check a filter change in the built-in browser canvas.
I can verify the behavior without leaving the app or switching windows. Here's a quick walk-through. 👇

As low-quality contributions increase across open source repositories, more contributors should have the tools to help manage repos.
Users with triage, write, maintain, or admin access can now archive PRs.

Users with triage role or higher can now archive and unarchive pull requests.
• Archiving closes PRs, makes them read-only, and hides them from public view
• Unarchiving restores commenting but does not reopen the PR

Approvals are now retained for Stacked PRs after stack rebases ✅
Whether you use the "Rebase stack" button or partially merge a stack, as long as the diff doesn't change, PR approvals will be kept even if you have "dismiss stale approvals" turned on

After introducing PR limits, we heard from maintainers dealing with a flood of draft PRs.
You can now turn on “Count draft pull requests toward the limit” to include drafts in your repository’s limit.
What other controls would help you manage contributions?

We're bringing local models and sandboxed tools to Windows and GitHub Copilot
Coming soon, GitHub Copilot will determine when a task is best handled by on-device intelligence and when it should leverage cloud-scale models.

gh stack CLI now supports git worktrees 🥞
You can manage stacks where each branch is in a separate worktree, while still taking advantages of things like cascading stack rebases

Back on X! I’m looking forward to talking with developers about how we’re scaling GitHub, improving reliability, and how AI is changing the way we build software.

My AI agent now has a face! 🤖
Idle. Working. Needs a decision. Done.
It’s a Waveshare ESP32 on my desk. I pointed Copilot CLI at a photo of the device and ended up with blink, look-around, tap, sleep, and hook-driven states. Also created a web-based "character studio" so I wasn’t flashing firmware after every animation tweak.
Full walkthrough of the process in the video! 🎥

Agent got you most of the way there? Make those last tweaks directly in the diff, right where you’re reviewing the changes.

AI coding tools increase developer output. But growing pull request backlogs can easily overwhelm engineering teams, contributing to what’s known as “review fatigue.”
Here’s how to calibrate your workflows for agentic development. Improve prompts, use stacked pull requests, and recognize how the developer role is changing.

The September 2026 GitHub Monthly Enterprise Roundup is now available.
Explore how GitHub’s Agentic Engineering System helps enterprise teams use AI to accelerate software delivery while maintaining quality, security, governance, and human oversight.
This edition also highlights Project HydraFusion, along with Copilot’s expanding agent, app, CLI, SDK, IDE, and collaboration experiences.
We cover three priorities for enterprise leaders:
• Build an agentic engineering operating model
• Measure adoption by outcomes, not output
• Embed quality, security, and human approval into AI-assisted workflows
Scale a more productive, secure, and resilient engineering system.
