I just hate the idea that good comic art has to be obsessively self-aware of its own structure. Total dismissal of the entire history of the medium in flavor of flashy gimmicks. And no consideration of WHY something like Absolute Marty structures itself the way it does!

its truly wild in Houston, we clearly have a serial killer out there throwing folks in bayous and there's no widespread concern. Its just business as usual
this been a story for nearly 2-3 years and everyone is like OH ANOTHER ONE

Something I really love about Over the Garden Wall is that it's one of the few projects I can think of that incorporates 19th-century Americana without leaning hard into the West or veering into generalized Victoriana that isn't a specific period piece.

It’s funny how people love watching a flawed fictional character learn and grow from their mistakes but also categorically refuse to apply that same logic to actual people

The thing is that Terry IS that guy. He has a criminal record. Lmao He's actually been around other delinquents and troubled teens to know what's serious and what's not. Nash knows not to play with him because Terry has experience in a real fight and wouldn't hesitate.

Anthony Bourdain seeing Houston in 2016:
“Some people say make America great again. I say America was great all along. Some of us just forgot why... [But] in some places in America, apparently you are still welcome. Welcome, stranger. This land is your land.”

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream has to be one of the most larped pieces of media of all time. People always talk about it as if it's this huge sprawling universe with loads of lore. It's a short story that you can read in ten minutes.

i’m far from the first to comment on this, but i think the reason the deaths of Patrick Stewart, Dolly Parton, etc hit so hard is that we’re losing the last generation of people who became genuinely famous in a monoculture. studio execs have worked tirelessly to nix the “Hollywood star,” and social media has driven us all into silos. we’re losing the last few folks who bring us all together.

The idea of people from a working class background and real deprivation being cultivated to the very heights of grace and culture like Patrick Stewart was a great achievement of the 20th century, and almost lost now in many places. The Anglosphere ruling classes did everything they could to stop this and replace it with a global neo-caste system of bloodless strivers and nepo babies.
my tiny contribution to patrick stewart discourse is i read the beginning of his memoir in a bookstore (which is good and afaict was not ghostwritten) and he talks about how he grew up in a working-class english town so poor it didn't even have running water or something, and there's something poetic about someone who grew up like that becoming the, y'know, captain of a starship

this is what i mean when i say fandom culture's general paranoia about making sure they're not ever consuming problematic proship medias makes them incapable of engaging meaningfully with actual art

I’ve never seen “you’re too good for her focus on yourself/ goals instead” content from a male perspective before. It’s been 100% female until this. The result of therapy speak being adopted by men.

eroticism is an extremely common theme in catholic art and if you're not willing to accept it that's a personal problem.

Why would they? This sculpture was inspired by the cathedral in Nagasaki that was destroyed by the atomic bomb. Since there were consecrated hosts inside, according to Catholic theology this makes Jesus himself a survivor of nuclear war.
