Sometimes, all it takes is one person who refuses to give up on your dreams.
For Akanksha, that belief came from her mother when the world around her doubted her, carrying her all the way to the Toofaan Cup 2026 finals. With every match, she found the confidence to keep going, the courage to overcome setbacks, and the chance to show everyone what she was capable of.
Her journey is a reminder of what sports can do for girls!

Through Project @NanhiKali 's Toofaan Cup, that same spirit is helping young girls from remote parts of India, experience the joy, confidence and freedom that sport can create. Happy to see this story travel beyond our communities and become part of the global conversation. ๐

A big congratulations to the whole @NanhiKali team; especially the local women leaders driving this programme and the girls who are growing and learning through sport in India!
I am so thrilled that Project @NanhiKali received this prestigious Sports for Social Good Award from Sportstar under the aegis of @the_hindu newspaper group.
This is an award for years of holistic education to empower nearly a million underprivileged girls across India by @naandi_india under Project Nanhi Kali. A big shout out to our Sports Director Lisa Murawsky @gnwLisa who leads this initiative and to the 1850 young women Associates on ground who make this happen.
I also thank all the thousands of individual and hundreds of corporate donors who support this Project in transforming girls across India.
This #InternationalWomensDay2026 theme, Give To Gain, reminds us that progress is not an individual prospect. In Khedwa, a village in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a community chose to give.
As the Nanhi Kalis were to leave for Amritsar to play at the national-level Toofaan Cup 2026, the village that once didn't allow women to play, came together to buy them sports jerseys with their own names and numbers. A simple gesture that carried a powerful message: we are proud of our girls, and the country should be too.
The team played fearless football, knowing an entire village stood behind them. When women are backed by their communities, they move further and faster with greater belief.
This Womenโs Day, we celebrate not just the girls who fight all odds but the communities that show what happens when you stand behind your daughters.

This is why the #ToofaanCup of project @NanhiKali is a storm that is brewing to create Girl Power across India. The largest girls football tournament of its kind, the Toofaaan Cup is the culmination of selecting one winning Team from 1300 teams. The teams are selected from nearly 100,000 girls playing football through out the year (after school hours) under the supervision of trained women coaches. It is a grass roots movement of girls studying in Indiaโs government schools.
Last week when the Toofaan Cup concluded in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, it was a team from Varanasi that won beating one of the teams from Prayagraj. The best team from Jambusar won the third prize beating a debutant team from tribal Araku.
So we are spreading a girls football Toofaan. Thank you @gnwLisa for leading this Toofaan for us! Cheers also to all the team members of Project Nanhi Kali which is over 1900 women leaders !!!
Young Sanfida Nongrum scoring on her senior debut for the India womenโs national football team in the AFC Womenโs Asian Cup.
It was also Indiaโs first goal in the tournament in 23 years.
But the story behind the goal is just as inspiring.
Across the Northeast, in places like Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya, football is not just a sport. Itโs part of everyday life. Girls grow up playing freely, supported by families and communities.
That ecosystem deserves far more recognition.
Because sometimes the future of a nationโs sport begins far from the biggest stadiums.
16 teams out of 2,436 all-girls teams across the country, came together in Amritsar for three days of high-energy football at the second season of Toofaan Cup. This national tournament is the coming together of a movement and a year-long commitment to the game.
Under the @nanhikali program, these girls train and play league matches in their districts every weekend. Training, competing and growing as athletes long before they step onto this stage. The Cup is the spotlight moment. The real story is playing the sport in their own villages, the girls have created a space where they exist on their own terms. It is grassroots football in its truest form.

From the first kickoff to the final whistle, day 3 of Toofaan Cup 2026 had it all.
Team Ramana from Varanasi clinched the title against Team Khedwa from Prayagraj, but the real win was three days of grit, goals and unstoppable spirit from every Nanhi Kali who gave it everything.
16 teams. One unforgettable tournament. ๐โฝ

Weโre still buzzing from last weekโs national-level Toofaan Games. 151 girls travelled from across the country to be in Mumbai. What stood out wasnโt just the medals or the finish lines. It was the way these Nanhi Kalis stepped on to the field, competitive and deeply focused on winning but always ready to learn from one another. Cheering the loudest, sharing tips and picking each other up.
This is what sport does when young girls are given the space to play, push themselves and belong. And watching them bloom with enthusiasm is what keeps us going. ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธโจ
Shoutout to our Sports Director @gnwLisa and the entire team on field that pull this off, year after year.
Now in its 2nd edition, the Toofaan Cup nurtures young talent among Nanhi Kalis across the country, one match, one lesson, one goal at a time. Because when girls are backed with opportunity, the game becomes a pathway to confidence, and possibility.
๐ท Swipe to see key highlights from the field!

Somewhere between the first pass and the final whistle, confidence found its voice.๐ท๐ท
At the District-level Toofaan Cup in Vizianagram, 71 Nanhi Kalis participated. They didnโt just play a game, they lived a story of growth and grit.
With HPCLโs support, 34 girls took the pitch, 14 made it to the final two teams, and one helped her team clinch a decisive 6-goal win.
The journey to the finals was filled with joy, shaped by teamwork and trust.

*Delighted to share that @NanhiKali won the Grassroots Sports Initiative of the Year at the 3rd CII Sports Business Awards 2025, with the jury unanimously recognising our work.*@naandi_india @MahindraRise
Toofaan Games District level competitions across Darjeeling, Netrang and Amritsar have wrapped up, each district bringing steady performances and a lot of heart from the girls on the field.
From close runs to confident wins, itโs been a solid few days of play with every player showing up ready to give their best.
With district results now in, the girls move one step closer to the Toofaan Games Finals, carrying the momentum theyโve built over the last few days.
More updates coming your way as the journey continues.โจ
