Check out our recent paper published in #JNeurosci looking at dendritic function and long-term plasticity in in Fragile X syndrome. Congratulations to Dr.Greg Ordemann (@gregorcyte) on the final paper from his dissertation. jneurosci.org/content/early/…

I defended my dissertation today!! And then my wife and I got to move into our new house!! We’ll soon have a baby joining us on this house!! Life sure is something, but sharing it with someone amazing makes the bad times easier and the good times sweeter!

Ok, maybe I’m late to the party. But I just read that Andrew Huxley (as in Hodgkin and Huxley) was the half brother of Aldous Huxley! You know, the guy who wrote Brave New World and experimented with mescaline! What a family 🤯

Black Lives Matter. I believe that unequivocally. I promise to strive to learn more, speak out more, and give more. I will educate myself and better myself so I can help bring about the change that is so desperately needed in our world.

My wife and I built a quarantine fort! I thought it might help separate my office from the living room and help productivity. But really we just spent a lot of time building an awesome fort! I think I’ll still call it a win.

In honor of Halloween, here’s a super spooky image of spider web looking axons running through the hippocampus! There is one neuron caught in the web (if you can spot it) 🕷 🕸 👻

Had a fantastic #sfn19 with great friends and awesome colleagues! Special shout out to the the guy at my poster at who said, “Well, it’s hardcore ephys but it’s still good.” I’m glad you could get past that and enjoy my work!

Fluffy neurons and a fluffy dog make for a fluffy life!

For those using optogenetics: a cautionary tale. Light alone can modulate neural activity and behavior through heating. Our latest paper shows mechanism. 1/
