ALT Two questions we hear often are “Why now?” and “Will this save anything?” The cost of timing: Construction inflation increases at an estimated 3.5% to 5% annually. At 3.5% annual inflation, the same $24.85 million project would cost about $28.5 million in five years, $33.8 million in ten years and $40.2 million in fifteen years. These figures are illustrations, not bids or predictions. Operating savings: Once construction is complete, the district estimates at least $213,000 a year in savings from staffing efficiencies, heating and cooling, and repairs and maintenance. The plan reduces four school buildings to three and cuts more than 19,000 square feet the district has to heat, clean and maintain. These savings are separate from bond payments. Concept plans, FAQs and a property-tax calculator are available at GRbond.org. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

ALT FAQ: Why additions instead of renovations? Gordon-Rushville Public Schools evaluated both renovation and new construction options during the facility planning process. The district determined that additions were more cost-effective, would reduce disruption to students during construction, and would eliminate the need for Rushville Elementary students to cross the street for lunch and PE. Community feedback also showed a preference for additions over renovations. Have more questions about the proposed school bond?
