Solana's validator problem isn't permissionlessness. It's economic survival.
The @SolanaFndn gives new validators 12 months to become independent, while limiting stake matching to 50%.
Meanwhile, established operators already control the relationships, capital, and distribution needed to attract stake.
We're effectively asking smaller validators to compete in an unequal market, then removing their support if they can't catch up fast enough.
I support ending permanent subsidies. I support requiring operators to actually run their own infrastructure.
But independence isn't something you create by imposing a deadline.
If the result is fewer independent operators and more stake flowing toward the already established ones, what exactly have we decentralized?
A network can be permissionless by design and economically exclusionary in practice.
That's the conversation @solana needs to have.
🚨JUST IN: @Solana Foundation announces new rules for its Validator delegation program, effective today, to strengthen its role as a launchpad for new validators.
• Membership limited to 12 months
• Members exit once external stake exceeds 300,000 $SOL
• Delegation capped at 100 validators
Existing members outside the new rules will retire in weekly tranches. Retiring and retired validators can apply for renewal.
