Are you fucking kidding us?
The US Secretary of Defense posts “Patriots in control,” a notorious QAnon slogan. THREE MINUTES later, Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev responds with “WWG1WGA,” another QAnon cult mantra.
What the actual fuck is this? A coordinated trolling operation? A joint US-Russian QAnon convention? Or have the lunatics finally taken over both asylums?
These people are running two nuclear powers, for fuck's sake.

Nov 6, 1789. Rome. Pope Pius VI names John Carroll of Maryland the first Catholic bishop in the United States. Fourteen years earlier, Washington had been ordering his soldiers to stop burning the pope in effigy. The Revolution had changed a lot.
Before the war, Catholics in the colonies were a small, often distrusted minority. Most colonies barred them from voting or holding office. Even in Maryland, founded as a haven for English Catholics, they'd lost most of their political rights. Every Nov 5, New Englanders celebrated Pope's Day by parading and burning effigies of the pope.
John Carroll was born in Maryland in 1735 to a wealthy Catholic family. Since Catholic schools weren't allowed in the colonies, he was sent to Europe as a boy and trained there. He became a Jesuit priest and taught in Europe for years. When the Jesuit order was suppressed by the pope in 1773, he came home to Maryland and worked as a priest without a parish.
Then the Revolution pulled him in.
In 1776 Congress sent a delegation to Canada to try to win over the French-speaking Catholics there. It included Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Chase, and John's cousin, Charles Carroll of Carrollton. They asked John to come too, hoping a Catholic priest could help convince the Canadian clergy. It didn't work. The Canadian bishop had already ordered his priests to stay loyal to Britain. The mission failed.
But on the way home, Franklin, who was 70 and sick, was looked after by John Carroll. They became friends. Years later, when the Vatican asked Franklin, then America's minister in Paris, for advice about who should lead the Catholic Church in the new country, he recommended Carroll.
Meanwhile, the Revolution had opened doors for Catholics. They fought in the Continental Army. Catholic France was America's crucial ally. Charles Carroll signed the Declaration of Independence. And the new Constitution banned religious tests for federal office.
In 1789 the American priests were allowed to elect their own bishop. They chose John Carroll almost unanimously. On Nov 6 the pope approved it.
Carroll became bishop of Baltimore, the first Catholic diocese in the United States. That same year he founded the school that became Georgetown University. He later oversaw the building of the Baltimore Basilica, the first Catholic cathedral in the country.
The Church he led started with a few dozen priests. Today about one in five Americans is Catholic.

You cannot shut conservatives out, build your entire message around a handful of moderates, and then wonder why your base didn’t show up.
We need a change in messaging and leadership that stops treating conservatives as an afterthought.
That’s why I’m running for House Republican Conference Chair. We need to stand for the conservative principles we campaign on and actually deliver!

Say what you are going to do and then follow through and do it. Amazing concept that so few elected officials seem to grasp!
Replying to @RonDeSantis
I remember how bad red tide was when i moved here in 2017. I moved here for the beautiful beaches but the lake water releases from Okeechobee into the rivers leading to the gulf and Atlantic were causing the horrible algal blooms.
I literally only voted for you in 2018 bc you had a plan to fix that issue and the other guy didn’t….and you actually did what you said you were going to do.

Congratulations to the new Chief of Staff, @StephenM.
Double down on the agenda. Too many people are demanding a change to tough policies because they were unpopular in the midterms. That’s foolish and cowardly.
The short term unpopularity of a policy does not make the policy wrong. The President’s priority should be long term benefits (like an Iran without a nuke), not short term popularity.

Trump has been talking down to the American people for his entire second term, something he never did in the first. It started with the Epstein debacle. Now that he’s losing and unpopular, he’s going to point the finger at his own citizens with no concern for what his meltdown will do to the future of the conservative movement or the Republican Party. It’s going to get worse and uglier. The worst thing conservatives can do now is feel any obligation at all to defend this bullshit. It’s indefensible and we all know it.

Every word of this.
Ron DeSantis explains why the GOP "screaming socialism" doesn't work anymore:
"Young people have a very positive view of socialism compared to capitalism. The question is, why is that? Some of it is the education in our universities. But I think a big part of that is, what they're comparing is not free enterprise versus socialism. What they're comparing is how government gets involved in business, and you have crony capitalism. The best kind of indirect supporters of socialism are some of these corporatist republicans who propagate these crony policies. The average person is seeing that and saying, 'Wait a minute, you're trying to bend the government to funnel benefits to this corporation or that industry. What about having a competitive market? ... Young people really aren't seeing that. They're seeing just a handful of companies that have an outsized influence on our economy and on our society"

JD Vance is not to be trusted.
Vance is not the future of the Republican Party.
If a RINO like @SteveHiltonx is nominated, should anyone take notes?
If you’re right wing and you can’t admit liberals (not communists) are way better at art and design and boutique coffee shops and restaurants, you’re not living in reality.
If you’re left wing and you can’t admit conservatives are way better at running cities and businesses and police departments, you’re not living in reality.
You step inside a beautiful coffee shop in the PNW and think “man, these liberals are great at this stuff…conservatives should take notes.” Then the moment you step outside and trip over a homeless drug zombie shooting up fentanyl on the sidewalk, you think “man these liberals are terrible at this stuff…they should really take notes from conservatives”
Communists make disgusting anti-beauty art, but classical liberals aren’t like that. Put the libs in charge of the coffee shops, put the conservatives in charge of city hall. This is how you get a city that is beautiful, clean, and functional.
If you can’t accept that, you need to check your tribalism. We are never getting rid of each other, so figure out how we strike a balance or else the communists swoop in and take everything from us while we quarrel over stupid bullshit…which is exactly what’s happening now.

Defanging the Iranian regime has never been about doing what's popular - it's about doing what is necessary to defend the American people. President Trump understands that, and I'm confident he will bring about an end to this war that makes America - and the world - safer and more prosperous.
