A warning what happens when a tech company prioritizes OKRs (eg "ship the new app in Q2 2024") and hitting artificial goals is what everyone optimizes for. And stops:
- Listening to customers
- Doing proper QA testing
- Holding a new release until it is ready for prod

Tu me refais un point quand tu l’as reçu.»
Ok chef 🫡. Réflexe envers mon collègue d’expérience qui m’a bcp appris.
On attend l’arrivée du SMUR

attr() is getting an upgrade!
Starting in Chrome 133 (stable rollout happening this month), you'll be able to access attributes in CSS as typed values beyond strings.
Here's an example of where that's pretty cool. Given:
<div data-rating="4.5">
You can use data-rating as a numerical value with:
attr(data-rating type(<number>)
So in this demo, I'm using that value to show a fill percentage in the stars (as a background gradient with a mask). I'm also able to use this value as a string (which was possible before) to represent its content as a string in a pseudo element. Two for one!

TIL about the Linux function splice(2) that moves data between file descriptors without actually copying the data.
This piece of magic was available since 2006.

Interesting:
Meta created React Native. It’s used (with components at least) in their flagship apps: Facebook (iOS, Android), Instagram (Meta Quest), Messenger (desktop).
Google created Flutter. And yet none of their flagship apps use it (Gmail, YouTube, Maps, Calendar).
