Wishing all a Happy New Year!
My hope is that with this global shift in ways of living and seeing the world, connection, collaboration and compassion will surface in a move towards more sustainable lifestyles, for the well-being of humans and nonhumans alike.
Reflecting on a great time @eecera conference this month and opportunity to meet such interesting people & to present my doctoral research on #compassion in early education environments!😊
Thanks to @DUSofE for enabling me to attend 🙏#EECERA2024

Sometimes an adult initiated experience isn’t what the child needs in that moment. Sometimes a child’s purpose is clear.
When adults respond to this, appreciating that the initial stimulus still sparks learning but has led to a different outcome, it is more meaningful for all.
A wonderful example of compassion and its value in education environments, as well as objects acting within these experiences

I'm so grateful to a old student who sent a heart-warming message re her experience in my classes after a week of self-doubt. If anyone's inspired or positively influenced you tell them! You never know how it might uplift and turn their day (or week) around😊
#KindnessMatters
The importance of valuing young children's thinking in early education environments & creating time and space for it to unfold, meander and be heard should not be underestimated 👇

#nursery child explores the number of children in class with great interest:
Child: “33 in today”
“An interesting number” I respond
Child: “An odd number! 10 plus 10 plus 13 because the last 10 is really 10 + 3”
He thinks aloud and unfolds the learning as he records.
Joy!
Such an important reminder for us all from my friend
@emaslin94 to also have some #compassion for ourselves #WorkLifeBalance
Have felt alot of guilt about taking off today for ‘annual leave’, but politely reminded myself that in any other job this was a totally legitimate thing to do & necessary for recharging during fieldwork - so take this as your cue to be gentle with yourself & do the same #phdlife
#IBE2022 Symposium C: It was a joy chairing this session @DUSofE

And now onto our panel! Hearing the lived experiences of recent @durham_uni PhD graduates - what would they tell their first year self? 🤔
Super advice giving a sense of shared experience and community - thank you all for your openness and supportive reflections

Having a great time teaching with #dreamteam @emaslin94 @bluehousef70 on @DUSofE 2 week Summer School with an amazing group of aspiring education students exploring contexts for education incl. Montessori, museums + forest school for early years and primary

With an early years education background my Easter reading of course had to involve pictures...
A welcome reminder from Big Panda that unhurried is okay, in both academia + early education

Messiness of research and learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable - Great Learning Circle last night @crec - such a welcoming, supportive community for experienced and apprentice ECE researchers alike!
So great to hear about developing research projects in mindfulness @MindNurturing and compassion @h_broadfoot - really interesting discussions around innovative methodologies and the messiness of data…
Words spoken by Montessori in 1946 and resonate with me as an early education teacher still today:
"In these times, more than ever before, our hope is that education will offer an aid to better the condition of the world.”2012:24 #compassionmatters

Enjoying this great symposium #BECERA2022 Importance of relationships in ECE and during training... particularly for being and living well together - supporting one another in the process - in our interconnected world
