OpenAI Newsroom
@OpenAINewsroomOct 13
We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work. At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated. We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

This evening I sat with someone during their last hours of life. Dying decades too soon. Fuck Cancer. Never ignore a persistent pain. Early detection is the most effective treatment. The government denied her parents a visa to visit their dying daughter. A petty and cruel slight against someone who came to contribute to this country.

no one is actually building a Github replacement cursor's origin launch just confirmed this - they are only building a replacement for the _paid_ version of Github, because that's where the money is if everyone goes after the paid source control business and take that away from Github, Github will not be able to sustain the open source ecosystem i hope we figure out a viable alternative before that happens..

‼️ BREAKING: An active npm supply chain attack has compromised at least 868 packages carrying over 2 billion monthly installs with a credential-stealing worm. Shai-Hulud is back. It started with the compromise of the GitHub account of the maintainer behind keyv, a library with roughly 127 million weekly npm downloads. A preinstall hook fires on npm install and drops a stealer that sweeps npm, GitHub, AWS, Kubernetes and Vault secrets, and then spreads to more maintainers.

The opposite of what I predicted would happen two years ago. The strategic play for regulatory capture by some U.S. models, and the willingness of Chinese authorities to tolerate unregulated output, has been an unexpected surprise to me.
"What an upside world when Chinese open-weight models will tell us about Tiananmen Square, but American frontier models won't translate a blog post. Not even Kubrick saw that coming." world.hey.com/dhh/i-m-sorry-…

Do note that T? where T : struct is syntactic sugar for Nullable<T>, whereas T? where T : class is nullability for nullability analysis and there is no HasValue property in this case. This is why a method would require multiple overloads to accept the nullable and non-nullable T where T : struct.

90% of the world's website are built on jQuery, and over 750 million websites are running an outdated version of jQuery right now. jQuery itself is actively maintained and the team continues to ship improvements. The problem is the long tail: sites that installed jQuery years ago and never upgraded. For organizations that can't migrate immediately, there's a practical option: HeroDevs' Never-Ending Support (NES) for jQuery provides ongoing security patches for end-of-life versions, buying teams the time they need to modernize without leaving production systems exposed in the meantime. This is the kind of ecosystem-wide thinking that makes open source sustainable at scale — not just shipping new versions, but making sure the organizations still running older ones have a safe path forward. So apparently after Meta leadership: - Force reassigned some of the best devs on teams to AI data labelling fulltime - Laid off another 10% - Started to record every dev’s screen in the US 24/7 They now realized that it has, indeed started to destroy their eng culture. And are now trying to walk back. All of the above was unprompted, not forced by anything external or even business reasons (Meta recorded record revenue, record profits) The biggest self-inflicted eng culture destruction I’ve seen in a matter of weeks

🇮🇳 Tata Electronics Internal Data Allegedly Exposed on Dark Web A threat actor is advertising what appears to be a large internal dataset allegedly associated with Tata Electronics, claiming access to more than 630 GB of data across multiple internal systems and file shares. Based on the screenshots, the exposed content may include: * Internal server directories and infrastructure information * Software repositories and deployment packages * SAP-related files and configurations * Manufacturing and production documentation * Internal audit findings and quality control records * Operational procedures and process documentation * Windows event and security logs * Employee names and responsibility assignments * Internal network and workstation identifiers The screenshots suggest the data originates from manufacturing and enterprise environments, potentially affecting production, quality assurance, engineering, and IT operations. Potential risks include: * Exposure of internal infrastructure details * Targeted phishing against employees and contractors * Supply chain intelligence gathering * Operational disruption attempts * Credential harvesting opportunities * Increased risk of lateral movement in future attacks While no customer data is visible in the screenshots provided, the presence of internal audit records, software packages, server information, and event logs could provide valuable reconnaissance material for threat actors. At the time of writing, the authenticity, scope, and current accessibility of the advertised dataset have not been independently verified. Analyst Note: Manufacturing organizations are increasingly targeted because internal operational data can be leveraged for espionage, ransomware operations, supply chain attacks, and long-term access campaigns. Even seemingly routine audit reports and system logs can reveal critical information about internal processes and infrastructure. #DDW #Intelligence #DarkWeb #TataElectronics

Today, VoidZero joins Cloudflare. Vite remains MIT, vendor-neutral, and stewarded by the same wider team. The same goes for Vitest, Rolldown, and Oxc. Cloudflare is also committing $1M to an OSS fund to support independent development in the Vite ecosystem.
