In the United Kingdom, if you don't do your emails outside of work hours, the state broadcaster will accuse you of tanking the economy

This is not how our tax money should be spent. Peaceful protest is a human right.
The no money thing particularly doesn't work. I like Trek but it's very peachy at times. That's one of the reasons I'm a bigger fan Babylon 5 and The Expanse. Both have progressive themes, but they're delivered in a far more effective way.
NOTE: I'm a fan of Star Trek, not a "hater." But I'm a tempered fan.
The show is a philosophical mess. Oh yes, its values are progressive, which is why it's incoherent--that's what progressive values are.
1. It pretends there's no such thing as money or currency. Never explains it. Pretends human nature changed and people just "do the right thing" with no commensurate reward.
2. Runs a military organization with a hierarchy, but pretends that it hates battleships and war. Pretends these things can be managed away if everyone would just Federation harder.
3. They wouldn't give up the Federation hierarchy any more than Marxists will give up their penthouse so that the poor they claim to care about are equal.
4. Puts 1,000 people and families on a warship, puts that ship in danger, then the crew insist on prioritizing the safety of nanites that are destroying the ship over the preservation of their own people and families.
5. Consistently places the sensible, cautious, and sometimes militaristic points of view concerned with survival in the mouths of what we would call "Maga-coded" caricatures today.
Even when the "Maga" character is right, and the Captain has to do what he suggests to save the ship, the smug crew and writers still mock him and act superior.
It's a great show. It's also a ridiculous, infantile, leftist liberal cream-jeans fantasy.
Gene Roddenberry and the main production crew for decades are liberal man children.

The anti-AI crowd has accidentally become the most pro-work movement in human history.
For centuries, humanity has been inventing machines to eliminate labor.
Washing machines. Tractors. Computers. Industrial robots.
Every single one was supposed to make our lives easier.
Now we’re building machines that could eliminate intellectual labor too, and suddenly everyone wants to protect work at all costs.
Why?
Why is preserving the necessity of human labor more important than eliminating it?
I don’t want to preserve jobs.
I want to make them unnecessary.

It's been a tough week for Star Trek fans. And Babylon 5 fans. And X-Men fans.
RIP Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart.

It's a shame he'll be remembered for a minor side character with a funny accent.
Today I mourn one of, if not THE most enjoyable villain in all of sci-fi.
Farewell Alfred Bester, I loved to hate you💔

I’m so jealous that many people are probably about to discover one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever written and get to see one of the most beautiful sci-fi scenes ever to be put on screen for the first time.

As a guy who finds the indie scene way more fun than mainstream gaming, it's easy for me to be very excited by the way AI is going to help small studios and even individuals achieve their visions. So tired of games by focus groups. Let's usher in the games as novels era.

Yes. We all knew him from Star Trek but for me, his most memorable role was from Babylon 5 as psi-cop Alfred Bester. A wonderfully complex character. One of the absolute best villain/antagonist characters in any scifi tv show.
(I'd dare say second to only Scorpius from Farscape)

Walter Koenig has died at 90.
Every time we lose one of the original crew, my heart bleeds a little more. The Original Series and those first six films are among my favourite things ever made. They were there long before I knew what they would mean to me.
Now the bridge grows quieter, and I am reminded how few of those voices are left, and how much of my own life was shaped by them.
Goodbye, Mr Chekov. I pray that on your final journey you boldly go where no man has gone before.

Tim is right. Steam's AI disclosure rule is abhorrent.
I recently shipped an AI-assisted game, and that label doesn't help anyone pick a game. It's a target. It tells the angry mob exactly where to send the review bombs.
Nobody discloses which engine, which brushes, or which plugins they used. AI gets singled out for one reason: so devs can be punished for using it.

Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.

I keep saying its the fanboys that moved on from console to PC but took that console war mentality with them. They make real, long term PC gamers look bad
