Come to Nepal and support this beautiful country at a difficult time - snapshots from my second weekend in one of the most stunning capitals in the world

Several Indian publications are playing with words, reporting that Nepal is asking India, China and the US to pay for flood damages.
It's not. Two separate things are being conflated here.
1. Nepal's Finance Ministry has formally requested support from the UN's Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage — designed at COP27 to help vulnerable developing countries offset damage from disasters caused by climate change. This is the first time Nepal has sought assistance.
2. Nepali officials in recent days are making the broader argument that the world's largest historical emitters bear responsibility toward vulnerable countries like Nepal, whose own emissions are negligible. That's an argument about cumulative emissions, structural vulnerability, and what climate justice requires. Nepal is not asking for a check for last week's disaster from specific countries.

Replying to @IndiaToday
IndiaToday tech team would have built an agent which crawls insta and autopost it on x/insta via their handle, by autogenerating caption and hashtags, but they might be using so lower models that its hallucinating this level or thier prompt is so bad that...🤣🤣

For all those fulminating in outrage about my use of the word “drama” in my first tweet from Nepal, the word does not only mean something theatrical. It is also defined as “a state, situation or series of events involving intensely clashing forces”. That’s the sense in which I intended it. But I do regret the choice of a word that could be so easily misinterpreted.
Took off for Katmandu yesterday, blissfully unaware of the drama that had taken place in the hills and caused such catastrophic damage. A severe, sudden flash flood struck northern Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the Tibet border, causing widespread destruction along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. Global warming and/or an earthquake in Tibet may have caused a large chunk of a glacier to break off and fall into the valley below, experts surmise.
Learned on arrival of the loss of life (now confirmed at 160 so far) and the fact that some 2000 or more people are estimated to be missing. Raging floodwaters destroyed at least 19 motorable bridges, washed away roughly 40 km of the Betrawati–Rasuwagadhi highway, and heavily damaged eight operational hydropower projects. I fully support the Indian government’s immediate pledge of relief assistance. Nepal needs all the help it can get.
My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones, who include large numbers of Indian tourists, including a hundred performing the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra. Prayers for the missing; may they be rescued soon. 🙏🏼

The Difference Between Nepal’s Old Political Leadership and the New Political Leadership 🇳🇵
Helicopters are being sent to save the lives of ordinary citizens, while the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other ministers are traveling by road to personally inspect the disaster-affected areas.
Meanwhile, for three days and three nights, the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and rescue teams have been working tirelessly -without rest, sleep, or pause - to save lives and reach those trapped by the devastating floods. 🇳🇵🙏
In a moment of such immense tragedy, seeing our leadership and security forces stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people is truly something to be proud of. ❤️😥
When the nation is in crisis, unity, courage, and leadership on the ground are what make Nepal strong.
Heartfelt respect and gratitude to every single person working day and night to save lives.
Salute to our heroes. 🇳🇵🙏❤️

Amid the devastating floods in Nepal, two little lives found the most beautiful support.
The way the women soldiers held the rescued twin babies in their arms and comforted them with such warmth and care is truly heart touching.
In the middle of a disaster, this beautiful moment reminds us that humanity knows no borders. ❤️
