In our ambitions for a big blue wave this week let us not forget the fact that it may drown Vance’s presidential ambitions as well - and that alone with be a gift to the world and the beginning of an era of American atonement. We have a lot of work ahead of us to rectify this predicament that seemingly caught a once mighty nation off guard and delivered us to this moment. We will not fix everything overnight, but we can begin to look each other in the eye again. We must move on from the aggression and acidic discourse in favor of something stretching towards courage. The fight ahead is not for the faint of heart. The anger and empathetic insolvency that was forced upon us by a frightened ogre of a man who thought himself a king can be a catalyst for a deeper transformation. If the folks who fell for his carnie act were in fact left behind, we can make sure that does not happen again. We should all strive for a sense of unity in place of the division that has roiled us. I know this will not be easy but we must all work to eradicate the conditions that led to such a bonfire of belligerence. MAGA folks said things out loud that should never have come off the lips of leaders, despite their party affiliation. This is what I mean by a ‘gut check moment’.
