final chorus of this mix has two drum sets, percussion, two bass guitars, sub synth, guitar, piano, brass band, and two vocalists 😭
Comb filtering is one of the most common problems I hear in home recordings
Sometimes it requires some serious acoustic treatment or even a different mic, other times a simple change in mic position and different EQ is all that's needed
At some point I'll do a full break down!
The hate i’m seeing thrown at Sam Altman is just appalling, I expected better from you all
Because we should also be hating on Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Alex Karp and all the other tech villain billionaires as well
had a very out of pocket dream last night where I hung out with Markiplier and we did coke, played video games, and watched obscure movies all night…
…Mark, if you’re reading this, i’m free next weekend
Kinda just did this on a whim late at night but it’s a decent overview of a very basic vocal with (almost) all free plugins
The two reverbs are overkill for most things, the first Studio setting is just to give it some natural (but still dry) space. The second Plate setting is the one doing most of the work
The Century Channel Strip is pretty underrated and it’s super simple for those just starting out. You can also experiment with using the LA-2A from the bundle instead of the compressor in the Century. 1176 into LA-2A is a very classic studio technique and still works well today

thought it'd be interesting and helpful to actually show how I'd approach mixing your vocals, so you can see what things I target and in what order
tried to use all free plugins but I needed Waves' Curves Equator for the midrange resonances ($40 and has a version for live use)

Ok Acon Multiply is actually pretty nice
Here's a quick test on a song I'm mixing right now, with a break down of most of the signal chain
Anyone using the Free Acon Multiply plugin?
Looks like a pretty deep chorus/widener plugin (and their Remix:Drums plugin is literal voodoo magic creating drum stems in real time)

some random but essential mix tips here

hey guess what
you can mix
every great mix has some automation, with your style of composition I'd say it benefits from more automation than average
use the rule of 3, you can only have 1 to 3 attention grabbing elements at any given time, take the listeners hand a bit and make the focal points clear to them
finally, this sounds strange but when you're adjusting volume don't focus on the thing you're adjusting. try and listen to the tracks it's most masking or interacting with. you may find you end up getting a better balance from the start and it can help you focus more on the problematic buildup and occlusion happening instead
From a global allocation perspective, actually, it's quite terrible to have Sam Altman using a bunch of the world's limited supply of oxygen sitting in his home
still pissed at Fender for the whole cease-and-desist scandal but man that pixelated pick guard is siiiiiick
