Meld has only 2 engineers but we release 10x more updates per year than alternatives…how is this possible? it’s all about how we handle updates. users of Other Broadcasting Software typically have a strong aversion to updates because they have a history of breaking plugins, etc. this makes providing support an order of magnitude more expensive b/c you have 20+ versions in circulation and you’ve likely already fixed the issue a user is experiencing in a recent version. Meld auto updates with ~1 day for 90% new version adoption. basically unheard of for native software. better than iOS version updates. this means we can roll out fixes, features and enhancements and all users benefit from them right away. in order to achieve this we have to be certain we can roll out updates with confidence that we won’t break things. to solve this we have many thousands of tests that evaluate the software, its behavior and functionality users depend on. i expected auto updates to be controversial given what streamers were used to but our users all look forward to them now and this is because we have a track record of shipping updates every two weeks for 3+ years without breaking anything. works great for product marketing as well because users are constantly hearing about how Meld is getting better and better
