i only just realized that xiwei was talking about BOTH jundai and weirao when she said she wondered if audiences would stop liking her for playing a darker character #cry
tian xiwei talking about how grateful she is that everyone still remembers jundai and how weirao and jundai eventually have a combined, completed form later in the story, which is 饶 and 黛. they’re blood-related so maybe their underlying code shares some similarities
she also mentioned discussing with director whether two different people would make the same kind of sound under the same extreme circumstances like the furious roar of losing someone they love or the cries for help when they’re desperately trying to survive. and yang long simply told her to perform the way she wanted. so that’s how it went
i love how much thought she put into the characterization, making two characters distinct is already challenging enough but finding the subtle threads that connect them, especially when their personalities are completely different, takes another level of understanding. and knowing that yang long gave her the creative freedom to interpret and portray both characters in her own way makes it even more interesting
and the way she talks about how she approaches her characters with those sparkling eyes… oh actress tian xiwei you’ll always be so so loved by me
it’s even more fascinating (to me at least) when you think back to this interview where she mentioned how she would sometimes get confused about whether she was playing weirao or jundai. “sometimes it was jundai playing weirao and sometimes it was weirao playing jundai” i guess that’s how deeply she immersed herself in both characters, to the point where their identities and influences could blur into each other. and tbh i catch a glimpses of jundai in weirao though her performance too
