i find it also amusing every time i see an ot6 or an ex-fan refer to evan’s departure as a “situation he created,” as if these same people weren’t once so vocal and hyperaware of enhypen’s grueling schedules, their well-being, and their need for room to grow as artists. i remember all the protests and discussions about these very issues before his departure, which makes the sudden shift in narrative all the more baffling that’s why i find it so difficult to understand where these people are coming from anymore. some of them used to be evan’s fans, too, or at least that’s what we thought and if we’re going to keep talking about the “situation he created,” then who is going to acknowledge the situation that preceded it? are we just supposed to ignore the implications of the circumstances his company created for his well-being and growth as an artist, and pretend his departure happened just because he felt like creating a situation for his former group? you cannot spend years recognizing the limitations and pressures placed on these artists, only to suddenly erase that context when one of them makes a decision you disagree with (or can’t grasp) that’s why i find so many of the fans who turned against him hypocritical. i genuinely don’t know if it’s the fear of missing out on the fandom’s current culture of turning evan into a villain, or simply a lack of understanding of how complicated these decisions can be in the real world. maybe it’s a little of both. but what i do know is that you cannot spend years advocating for an artist’s well-being and growth, only to condemn him for making a decision to protect those very things when it no longer suits your narrative
