Mumbai didn't become the economic capital of India by collapsing in every rain. Brainless development has brought us here. Where once flooding was a problem limited to low-lying areas and it took 26th July to bring the city to a standstill, regular heavy rain now results in collapses, not just flooding. Big projects, big commissions, big corruption. Cover every inch with concrete till water can't seep into the soil and all of it must flow over the surface and be carried away in drains choking in garbage. Who cares if the drains are properly developed and maintained to match?
This bullshit about heavy rains like there is something unique about this rain will work with people who are not used to this climate. Tell any person who grew up in Mumbai that there is anything noteworthy about this rain and they will LAUGH at you.
Mumbai is the only megacity in the world that gets over 800 mm rain in a month. Mumbai's challenge is truly unique and has no parallel. #MumbaiRain
