Reminder that Schumer only needs to win a simple majority of votes from his own party’s member (which would be 29 assuming Colom and Peltola win) — conducted via secret ballot — to be elected majority leader.
Mark Kelly says he supports Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader “Chuck worked really hard to get this majority, so my plan is to support him.” Source: CNN

Given how much Paxton/Rs have tried to imply things about Talarico’s personal life, it’s a tough posture to now say Paxton’s personal life is off limits. Good NYT story here about the woman influencer behind the Paxton scenes. nytimes.com/2026/10/27/us/ke…

Murkowski tells DOJ to butt out
Alaskans don’t need any help voting for their preferred candidates, and the State of Alaska has already handled this by clearly distinguishing the candidates on this year’s ballot. The Department of Justice should never have filed this lawsuit. apnews.com/article/alaska-se…

Lame duck shaping up.
The Administration’s decision to reduce intel sharing to Ukraine & access to Starlink equates to aiding the invader & the war criminal who bombs cities. Does the Administration think it will get ANY support for the remainder of the 119th Congress? Their agenda is dead unless they change paths. nytimes.com/2026/10/14/world…

Hard for me to imagine after McConnell/Garland any Senate controlled by one party will approve a Supreme Court nominee from a president of the other for the next few decades-maybe ever.
New —> Some Democrats don’t expect to fill a Supreme Court vacancy under Trump BLUMENTHAL: "Well, given the history of Trump nominees, I think it is slim to none that we would support a nominee from this administration." GALLEGO: "No, we’ve got to do exactly what McConnell did to us." I asked SCHUMER how he'd handle a potential Trump SCOTUS nominee: "One of the reasons we want to do everything we can to take back the Senate is not let Trump put such horrible justices — MAGA justices — on the Supreme Court and the lower courts." Court stakes are high in the 2026 battle for Senate control, as Alito admits he's thought about retirement. nbcnews.com/politics/congres…

Farmers and ranchers are hurting. “If you are growing something, you are losing money,” one GOP farm state senator told me last week.
Iowa must really be bad for the GOP. Last week, two Iowa Republicans (Miller-Meeks & Nunn) voted for an Iran war powers resolution. Now, their Senate candidate - Rep. Ashley Hinson R-IA - wants to end the Iran war, blaming it for high gas and food prices + farm troubles.

A month ago today, I asked Hinson at the Iowa State Fair if it was time to end the Iran war. She ignored the question. Now the answer: “the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end.”
Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran. We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices. That includes suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports, unleashing E-15 everywhere we can, reinstating the $1/gallon biodiesel tax credit, and creating a diesel relief program to help our farmers and truckers being crushed by the high costs. While doing this, we should also ensure our highway trust fund is replenished, so that Iowans don’t suffer from crumbling roads and bridges while relief comes our way now. These actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end. I am working every day to deliver bipartisan results for Iowans and I will work with anyone who is ready to tackle this challenge immediately.

Amtrak so bad it’s causing flight delays now …
UPDATE: An Amtrak construction crew accidentally cut into a fiber line in New Jersey which caused a telecom outage and forced FAA to pause flights in the Northeast. Right now: - Flights are resuming at LGA and PHL - Flights into EWR, JFK, and Teterboro Airport are paused This incident underscores the need for additional funding to modernize aging infrastructure and prevent disruptions like this in the future. Follow @FAANews for updates.
