This year, we are going to hosting a language immersion couch the entire first weekend of @jazzfest. Every day, our team will inviting everyone to sit on the couch with us, ask any questions, and learn how to greet each other in our language.
This work is more than language - its a lifelong effort of a group of passionate Indigenous activists to bring the Houma people together for dialogue and consensus building by using language reclamation as a method for positive cultural participation.
Since 2013, volunteer tribal citizens and linguists of the @houmalanguage have worked to restore the Indigenous Houma language of South LA with projects for community archiving, language reconstruction and community celebration.
