Everton’s disaster last week of the transfer window: 🔵 Made O’Brien available for transfer ⚪️ Tried to sell the best academy product of the last decade, Harrison Armstrong to Forest for £35m before a fan backlash 🔵 Sent our only left back cover Aznou on loan to Malaga ⚪️ Sold 5 players in the last week of the window including Ndiaye on deadline day for £30m+ below his value 🔵 Spent just £4m on a right back the 'priority position' on deadline day ⚪️ Sold Beto on deadline day before confirming Balogun which fell through after failed medical and break down in negotiations 🔵 Offered £10m to United for a year loan for Zirkzee ⚪️ End the window with just 16 outfield players including just 1 recognised striker We already had one of the smallest squads in the league, we lost 8 players this summer and have gained just 4! This is not mere carelessness, it is a dereliction of such scale that it amounts to an absolute catastrophe.

Andrew Neil starting off his tribute tweet
RIP Jason Arday. I never met you, never knew you and what I read of your work I found unimpressive. And yet I feel a sadness and loss at your death. You never deserved for it to end this way. You were used and even abused by others for their own ends. I do not believe you were in any way a bad person. Indeed there are many reasons to believe you were a good person. You needed help. Yet when you needed help it never came. Despite the huge pile on, nobody seemed to be there for you. You were left to die on your own, which only adds to the sadness. RIP Jason Arday. You were failed by those who had a duty of care towards you.

7th placed Brighton, at their gaff. Three games left after, one of which is Man City, another Bournemouth who we had lost the last four to. We were dead and buried. Thank you Dwight . What a disco we had.
Dwight's goodbye. 💙

there are war-torn regions that you'd rather visit over Edinburgh in August
Comedians at Edinburgh Fringe are undertaking emergency rewrites following Andy Burnham's appointment as prime minister. Katie Spencer speaks with some of the comedians performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year about how the new prime minister has affected their shows.

Let me say this officially: Up the Toffees 💙
A Toffee at No.10. 💙 Congratulations to Andy Burnham on becoming the UK's Prime Minister. A lifelong Evertonian, long-time Hillsborough Law campaigner, regular @SFoodbanks donor and @EITC fundraiser. Wishing you nothing but the best in your new role, @andyburnham. 👏

Dan Burn was brought on to protect a one goal lead and 8 minutes later was leading the press. Hilariously English way to go out

Being 1-0 up on 55 mins is a dream scenario when you've got pace on the bench. Argentina took Paredes off and had Otamendi on too. And he takes Gordon *off* and does nothing with Saka, Rashford, Madueke, Watkins. Argentina probably couldn't believe their luck.

I think *a* Men's World Cup is winnable for the US. Excelling at football technically is very hard, so in England we have a pathway for guys who are physical but lack skill. The 2031 Men's Rugby World Cup is hosted by the US and it's a huge opportunity. xitter.gq/nytimes/status/2074855…
From @TheAthletic: It’s time to admit the uncomfortable truth: The U.S. may never win a men’s World Cup. "This sport belongs to the world. We borrow it every few years," our columnist writes. "America is not built for the beautiful game." nyti.ms/4aGgrvA
