Content of Tense Conversation Between Budanov and Trump's Team Revealed Negotiations between the Ukrainian delegation and Donald Trump's special envoys in Miami, as reported by Le Monde, escalated into a conflict. According to the publication, during a three-hour meeting at the Shell Bay golf club, Steve Witkoff "with irritation" demanded that Kyrylo Budanov, head of Zelenskyy's office, cease strikes on Russian oil refineries. Budanov, per Le Monde's information, "barely contained his anger" and felt that he was being "treated like a child, trying to teach him how to make money." The Americans presented an ambitious plan for postwar "regional prosperity," which envisioned resuming the transit of Russian oil and gas to Europe through Ukraine, with dividends paid to Kyiv. Budanov was outraged that such a deal would tie Ukraine to Moscow, after which the negotiations broke off. When the meeting resumed, the Americans proposed accepting a deal for supplies of Russian diesel to the United States. The publication's sources noted that they had never seen Ukrainians "so upset and alarmed." Zelenskyy's entourage described the situation as "hopeless," since Trump's envoys "think only about business." 📸: Press service of the President of Ukraine

Finally, members of Congress seem to grasp that the President of the USA needs to be treated like a Russian agent, who is trying to use the power of the US government to protect Vladimir Putin as part of a criminal enterprise. That’s where we are.
SCOOP! Bipartisan House lawmakers target arms-transfer bottlenecks for Ukraine. Reps. Keating, Wilson, Meeks, Bacon, McBride and Fitzpatrick are teaming up on legislation to amend U.S. arms-export law to address third-party transfers of certain defense articles to Ukraine.

More good news re the Aldi Estevez Reserva 2025 Pinot Noir. On the evening of its second day open (but top screwed shut), unrefrigerated and with no wine preservation techniques applied, the wine is still good. Can buy with confidence.

Another good day for press freedom, similar to what happened in Hungary when Orbán lost. Will anyone at Fox News apologize or resign for being state TV if the Democrats sweep the midterms?
📺 “We reported events one-sidedly for years”: Serbian TV apologizes to viewers after Vučić's party loses the election Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) opened its news broadcast with footage of celebrations following the Student List's election victory — scenes it had failed to show the previous evening. “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said. Following the controversy, RTV's acting editor-in-chief Nenad Čačić resigned. A similar incident occurred in Hungary, where state television also apologized to viewers after Viktor Orbán's election defeat.

So, Putin is offering the Trump family Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (largest in Europe) and to jointly operate an LNG terminal in Alaska.
Replying to @ralexdc
BONUS: The most geopolitically sensitive proposals include a potential American role in Alaska LNG infrastructure involving Russian assets and a third-party management arrangement for Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, with electricity shared between Ukraine and Russia, according to the officials. The proposals are not necessarily final agreements.

The Lost Words is a beautiful thing. Macfarlane and Morris understood that when a child loses the word for a bird, the bird itself starts to disappear. I stood in front of Morris's originals in London, utterly stopped in my tracks ❤️

Aside from not making sense (how much space could 50 words take up on a page?!) the nature words are not arcane in the slightest: acorn dandelion fern heron kingfisher otter willow while the new ones are *already out of date* blog broadband voice-mail English deserves better

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: themarginalian.org/2019/06/1…

Reform plan to bring back imperial measurements to help boost US trade, not realising that US imperial measurements are different from UK ones. So dense a black hole is empty space by comparison.

"Putin lost twice yesterday," I heard several times, and I ask myself: Why exactly? The Serbian students list is a heterogeneous group of people who agreed that they support good relations with Russia, no sanctions, and when it comes to foreign policy, its positions do not differ that much from what Vucic pursued for years, at least for what we know for now. There is also no change in the position regarding Kosovo, which they of course will not recognize, or in their anti-NATO stance. Anti-Westernism, pro-Russian sentiment and nationalism have been part of Serbia's political culture for decades. Why are Western politicians so naive as to think it is only about Vucic? Is it wishful thinking? By the way, it is also not only Putin, it is Russian society, a political culture of imperialism and authoritarian, non-democratic traditions that shape Russian policy. Putin is a product of Russia's political system and Vucic a consequence of Serbia's history. The difference is that Serbia is democratic enough that at least Vucic could be voted out and somebody else could come to power, but the fundamental ideological cornerstones of Serbian politics will not change overnight because of this. There is no indication of that at all. Some supporters of the students' list even became furious, seeing Westerners celebrating a "loss" for Putin, highlighting that they seek good relations with Russia, well, as always. The next, even more or at least equally stupid take: "Putin lost in Brazil." Why? Not defending Bolsonaro, father or son, at all, but Lula has always proved one thing: He is very much pro-Russian, seeking closer and closer ties with Moscow and being very critical of NATO. He even visited Russia for the Victory Day parade and spread distorted, blame-shifting narratives about the Russian invasion, arguing that Western countries also bore responsibility for the war, invoking NATO expansion and Russia's security concerns, claiming that Western arms deliveries were prolonging the conflict and suggesting that Ukraine would have to accept territorial losses. Lula is very close to China, seeks "multipolarity" and is a devoted BRICS supporter. So, I do not see where exactly Putin lost. We cannot compare this with Hungary, and we should be more careful with comparisons or even equating different situations in general.

Serbia's political shift could have consequences far beyond Belgrade. If the new government aligns with EU sanctions against Russia, it would mark a major change in Serbian foreign policy. Zelenskyy's message signals an opening for closer ties — but the real test will be whether the new leadership turns that opportunity into concrete decisions. xitter.cf/unn_inc/status/2114677…

I'm happy to avoid Brazilian politics, but Lula's bizarre remarks about Zelensky being "as responsible for the war as Putin" must be revisited now. Does he stand by them after months of Russian war crimes? Does he defend a war of imperial conquest?

There have been changes in Serbia – a victory of the Student List @studentblokade. And this is clearly a new chapter in the history of the country and its people. We wish Serbia success, real development, and warm relations with the European community. We in Ukraine thank Serbia for respecting our people, our state, and our independence. And we always celebrate our shared achievements – everything that strengthens our societies and gives people more opportunities. We are ready to continue expanding our cooperation, and may all the good hopes of the people of Serbia come true!
