"Lakers" by @DCarter8
Agreed and Grimes gets more unlocked on offense with the starters I feel. Probably can course correct with all of this when Sexton is back to lead bench units.
Thinking how AD was clearly the last elite defensive center on the Lakers, but also had the offensive burden of averaging 26 a night for the team to be great.
Walker has none of those asks. He gets to devote his energy to defense and cleaning up at the rim like he did tonight.
Yaxel Lendeborg told Luka Dončić he “sucks,” says he lost all respect for him because of his whining during the Lakers’ 127-105 win Wednesday night. (Free to read) nytimes.com/athletic/7713041…

According to the Lakers, tonight, Walker Kessler became the first player in NBA history in the shot-clock era (1954-55) to score at least 20 points while shooting 10-for-10 or better from the field in his debut with a team.

My guy hates whining and complaining but in his very first NBA postgame interview he spends it... whining and complaining. Incredible stuff.

Walker Kessler placed a lot of credit on the court vision of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, among the rest of his teammates, when I asked him about his comfort level tonight.
But he did say this: “The biggest thing is having the attitude and mentality to try to dunk everything.”
Kessler quipped: “Contrary to my name, I run a lot.”

She does and that's exactly why she's so stunning.
It's because she aged that her beauty is magnified.
JJ Redick said he thought Walker Kessler’s strong game started “with his end-to-end transition running,” which resulted in some put-backs and extra chances. He also noted a spacing set that originated two days ago in practice and how Kessler benefitted from dribble penetration.
JJ Redick said there is no update on Jake LaRavia yet, but that Redick is feeling more positive about the injury than when it initially happened.

Luka Doncic said it’s an honor to be the face of the Lakers franchise and he wants to be here a long time.
Luka Dončić noted Walker Kessler’s strong start as a Laker, saying that he did a nice job of reading when to roll for the lob towards his 12-for-12 debut with 10 dunks, and summarized: “Very impressive game for him.”
Luka Doncic joked that he’s working on trying to pick up fewer technical fouls this season and refrained from picking one up when jawing with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg.

JJ Redick says Adou Thiero will be shut down for a couple days so the swelling in his knee can go down and then he’ll be “day to day.” Sexton has not suffered a setback but they want to be sure he’s at full confidence for a return. Cam Carr is ramping back up.

Final: Lakers 127, Warriors 105
LA begins the season 1-0 — just their second opening-night win over the past 10 years (!). Luka had 28/8/7. Walker Kessler had 26 points (12-12 FG, 10 dunks), 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. AR had 23/4/6. Biggest concern is Jake LaRavia’s status after a late ankle roll.
Up next: vs. LAC on Friday.

Jake LaRavia down, grabbing at his right ankle. Hobbled to the back. Tough end to the game for him - he'd been terrific
Jake LaRavia, who had a strong preseason and was 4 for 5 with a pair of 3's for 10 bench points in 18 minutes (+14) tonight, appeared to roll his ankle with 5:34 to play.
Damnit. Jake LaRavia is down with what appears to be a sprained ankle. He looked excellent tonight, too.
Per the ESPN broadcast, Kessler is the first Laker to shoot 100 percent from the field (minimum 12 attempts) since Wilt Chamberlain in 1969. AK
Looking forward to the "What's Wrong with Walker Kessler?" think pieces after his first missed shot of the season. AK
Walker Kessler checks out 12/12 from the field, the second-best shooting game in Lakers history behind a 14/14 performance from Wilt Chamberlain.
I know people are oddly invested in Austin sucking but this was a good game for him and, more importantly, the Lakers.

Matisse Thybulle sinks a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to make it 105-70 and now every Lakers player who has touched the floor tonight has scored.
The NBA record for dunks in a single game (since tracking began in 1996-97) is 11, set by Shaq three times.
Walker Kessler has 10 through three quarters.
The Lakers dominated the 3rd Q, 36-16, to push their lead to 102-68 heading into the 4th Q.
Doncic: 28 points, 8 boards, 7 assists
Reaves: 19 points, 4 assists, 2 steals
Kessler: 22 points, 11 of 11 FG's, 10 dunks, 8 boards
Grimes/LaRavia: 10 bench points apiece
The Lakers bench has 29 points after three quarters. And again, that's *without* Sexton available. If this becomes a trend, it's night and day compared to last year. AK
Third quarter: Lakers 102, Warriors 68
LA crushed GS in the third 36-16. They’ve outscored the Warriors 49-20 since Yaxel got into it with Luka. Doncic has 28/8/7. Walker Kessler has 22 points (10 dunks) and 8 rebounds. AR has 19 pts. LA has 10 steals and 25 pts off TOs.

Lakers have already been far more active defensively since halftime.
Just seven minutes have gone by in the third quarter and the Lakers have forced seven turnovers in the third quarter compared to just five in the first half.
And as I type, it's become eight. Lakers up 90-61.
Per the ESPN broadcast, Kessler has 10 dunks (and counting?), the most by a Laker in a game since Shaq in 2003. AK

Have to wonder if Kessler watched Ayton last year and thought, "how the hell are you fcking that up?"
