Your period is a report card for your hormones. Bright red, medium flow, 4-5 days = healthy cycle Heavy bleeding = estrogen dominance Light bleeding = low estrogen Brown blood at start/end = old blood, poor circulation Large clots = estrogen build up Painful cramps = inflammation or prostaglandin imbalance Spotting = low progesterone <21 days = luteal phase defect (usually low progesterone) >35 days = anovulation, insulin resistance, or thyroid issues Your body is giving you information every single month. Learn to read it.

Parents should ignore their children more often. So many mothers feel guilty for answering an email, cooking dinner, or getting work done while their kids play nearby. Modern parenting culture convinces you that you have to sit on the floor entertaining them, directing every game, or turning every interaction into an academic lesson. The research actually shows the opposite. Children who get hours of unstructured play without an adult participating build stronger focus, better self control, and social skills. Children develop independence when they have the space and boredom to figure out the world for themselves. You can finish your work and let them play.

The fastest way to make a woman anxious about her fertility is to tell her she has "plenty of time" and then send her home with no labs. Plenty of time to do what? Sit around and hope it works out? Hope is not a plan. Get comprehensive testing done in your 20s. Track your ovulation, thyroid, insulin, inflammation, nutrient status, progesterone, estrogen. Have a strong pulse on your fertility because your doctor sure as hell isn't going to be the one doing that for you.

Your body never “steals” pregnenolone to make stress hormones. Your ovaries produce almost all of your progesterone through the corpus luteum after you ovulate. You have low progesterone because your brain suppressed ovulation, which means no corpus luteum ever formed to make the hormone. Or you ovulated but it was a weak ovulation with a weak corpus luteum. Your adrenal glands operate on their own separate supply chain. Each adrenal cell produces its own hormones directly from cholesterol, so there is no shared pool of raw materials for cortisol to “steal.” When your DHEA drops, it’s your brain actively signaling your adrenals to downregulate sex hormone production while you are dealing with constant stress. Buying DHEA or pregnenolone supplements will never fix the root cause of low hormones. Your brain dialed down your reproductive system because it sensed danger. You have to eat enough food, stop overtraining, and rest so your brain feels safe turning sex hormones back on.

Women in the 1700s had way more babies in their late 30s and 40s than we do now, with zero fertility tech. They started in their 20s and just kept going. By 42, a woman was usually on baby #6, not baby #1. They also moved all day and ate real food. They spent most of their fertile years pregnant or nursing, which meant way less cycles for endometriosis and fibroids to build up. Your body learns to do this. Don't make it start cold at 40.
It is an incredible fact that women in the past had far more children at older ages than women do today, even without the benefit of modern technology. Assisted reproductive technology is supposed to extend the fertility window, and yet childbearing ends sooner now than it did in the past! 1/4 (Cambridge Population Group)

There’s a 93% chance you’re not eating enough choline. 2 eggs a day is not enough.

Young men who slept 5 hours a night for just 1 week saw their testosterone drop 10-15%, which is what 10-15 years of aging does. Trying for a baby? Put him to bed.

TLDR: A normal TSH does not mean your thyroid is healthy. Get your thyroid antibodies tested. Your TSH can be "normal" and you can still have a thyroid problem that is destroying your fertility. Thyroid antibodies (TPO and TgAb) are what your immune system makes when it is attacking your thyroid. Elevated antibodies are the first sign of autoimmune thyroid disease. They show up years before your TSH budges enough to catch your doctor's attention. Women with elevated thyroid antibodies have: - 2-4x higher miscarriage rates - Higher rates of preterm birth - Higher rates of postpartum thyroiditis - Lower IVF success rates in multiple studies - Possible association with lower AMH and ovarian reserve, especially in women under 35 And this is all with "normal" TSH. Your OB almost certainly did not check your thyroid antibodies. Most don't order them unless your TSH is already off, which misses the point. If you are TTC, ask for a full thyroid panel: - TSH - Free T3 - Free T4 - Reverse T3 - TPO antibodies - TgAb antibodies If your antibodies are elevated, you can address it before it becomes full-blown Hashimoto's.

Dads with higher folate levels before conception lowered miscarriage risk more than moms with higher folate did. Every 100 ng/mL rise in his level cut the risk by 19%, while the same rise in hers cut it by only 8%. When both partners had high folate, miscarriage risk dropped 64%. Hand him a prenatal too <3

Overweight women get told to lose weight before they try to conceive. Overweight men almost never do. His weight matters too. In a study with 4,520 IVF couples, the link between sperm DNA damage and poor sperm quality was strongest in men with a high BMI. Fertility takes 2 people, so get him tested and work on weight issues together.

This is truly scary. Girls build 90% of their adult bone mass by age 18, and they NEED estrogen to do it. A teen girl is probably eating 1000-1400 calories a day on an appetite suppresent. Her brain sees that as a famine and eventually shuts down her cycle. No period = very little estrogen. You don't get those bone building years back. That's how you end up with stress fractures at 20 and osteoporosis at 50.
One of my daughters told me TONS of her teen friends are taking injectable peptides because of things they saw on TikTok. Girls as young as 15, ordering Reta, GHK-Cu, Melanotan, BPC-157 & other GLP’s. All gray market stuff being sold directly to kids.

Birth control clears up your PCOS acne and facial hair by forcing your liver to produce sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein that soaks up free testosterone. The pill does nothing to fix insulin resistance, which is the actual cause of PCOS for most women. High insulin stimulates androgen production (eg. testosterone). Hence, the acne and facial hair. If you ever come off the pill, SHBG drops while that underlying metabolic dysfunction stays unaddressed, which is why you're now in your 30s with acne and facial hair (again). Fasting glucose test is not enough to determine if you have insulin resistance. Ask your for a fasting insulin test, because your fasting blood sugar often looks completely normal while your insulin is dangerously high.

Your CGM can say your blood sugar is fine while your insulin is spiking to keep it that way. That's why a flat glucose line only tells you half the story. Ask for fasting insulin, and if you can, a glucose tolerance test with insulin. That second test shows what happens after you eat.
Ultra-processed foods trigger a bigger insulin response than less-processed ones, even when they contain identical calories and nutrients. When people consumed two different meals matched closely for protein, carbs, fat, and fiber, the ultra-processed one produced a larger insulin response despite a similar overall blood glucose response. It also blunted the normal shift toward burning carbohydrates after eating and changed the brain's response to eating. I’ve talked before about Kevin Hall’s trial, where people eating an ultra-processed diet consumed about 500 extra calories per day and gained weight. This new study explains another part of why UPFs are so problematic - it shows that the way food is processed can change how our bodies handle it and even how our brains perceive it!

This sounds gross until you realize how in the dark ages we are with endometriosis. Most women get years of being told "it's just bad periods," then birth control to mask it, and maybe ablation which is a surgery that burns the surface of the lesions. It often grows back. So you get surgery again. And again. If you're lucky to find a skilled specialist, the best option right now is excision surgery, which cuts out the whole lesion. This lowers the odds of needing another surgery compared with ablation, but it can still grow back in new spots. We are no where close to understanding its root cause. Period blood is data we throw away every month, so I'm all for studying it.
Collected Kate’s period blood yesterday. 30 mL to build an organoid for her endometriosis. 30mL for single cell molecular characterization of her endometriosis.

I have exactly zero gardening experience, but at the start of the summer I bought a grow bag to plant cucumber seeds with my 4 year old son. I was learning from scratch right alongside him. He became obsessed with watering it. It grew so fast we had to buy a trellis for the vines. My 2 year old's squash right next to it sprouted and then never took off. Then we left town for 8 weeks. Our handyman watered it every day while feeding the goats, because I knew my son would be devastated if it died. When we got back, it looked rough but it was alive. We watered it daily and gave it lots of love, and within a week there were 3 cucumbers! Yesterday he ate his first harvest. One of the best parts of motherhood is getting to learn the things you never got to do as a kid.

"I'd want pregnancy-specific safety data first" is fair. The honest answer is that human RCTs don't exist yet. If you only make decisions based on studies, the answer is no. If you're willing to think from first principles, your body already makes creatine every day. The placenta actively transports it to your baby for 9 months. Animal research shows it can protect the fetal brain from the oxygen stress of birth. The "no" from most doctors reflects the absence of large human studies, not evidence of harm. I took 10g daily through my third pregnancy and dropped to 5g at 3 months postpartum. At standard doses, the risk vs benefit worked out for me. It's your call to make.

I’d want to see pregnancy-specific safety data before recommending creatine as a routine supplement.

Doctors will hand you birth control to "regulate your period" and pretend they solved the problem. Your period is a monthly report card for your hormones. If you're getting failing grades, hiding the report card like it never happened is not the answer. A healthy cycle has bright red blood, a medium flow, and lasts 4-5 days without debilitating pain. When your bleed looks like that, your body is telling you that you ovulated and your metabolic health is solid. An irregular or missing cycle is your body sending a clear warning that something deeper needs attention. Slapping a prescription over that warning does not fix your hormones. The bleed you get on birth control is FAKE. You are simply getting a chemical withdrawal bleed while your natural ovulation remains turned off. You do not need synthetic hormones to regulate your cycle once you address what your body is actually missing. if your cycle is irregular or missing, test your baseline labs and fix the root cause before you ever accept a pill pack.

Prenatals don't have a single milligram of creatine, even though your placenta and growing baby demand massive amounts of cellular energy. During pregnancy, your kidneys filter blood faster and so you actually flush out creatine in your urine instead of holding onto it. You would have to eat several pounds of red meat every day to replace what your baby and placenta demand. I took 10 grams of pure creatine daily during my pregnancy with my third child to keep my tissues protected. If you are pregnant or preparing for pregnancy, you should consider adding pure creatine to your daily routine.

My father in law is a physician. He's retired and only works part time, but he still spends so much of his day on paperwork. It opened my eyes. The good doctors love being with patients, yet the admin work keeps pulling them away. No wonder they can't always give the level of care they want to give. I love seeing tools like this get built. Taking paperwork off their plates is how healthcare can finally move from sick care to actual care.
We've raised $22.5M in total Series A funding for Confido Health, including a new $12.5M extension led by @z47_vc. Medicine has added decades to our lives, yet patients still lose weeks to paperwork. We're building AI agents to give healthcare teams more capacity to care.
